Replacing an old car stereo system?

I'm 16 and I'm buying my first car, finally, and we're getting it tomorrow or Thursday. It's a yellow, 1972 Ford Mustang (only 20,000 miles and $7000!) Anyways, we're looking to restore the radio system, because it still just has the basic AM radio.

Does anyone know how my mom and I go about doing this?

Thanks!

New headunit, new speakers for the deck and doors.

If you want more sound, maybe add two 10-in or 12-in subwoofers in the trunk and a couple tweeters on the a-pillars.
