how much should a valve cover replacement cost at a mechanic for my toyota camry? I'm getting quoted $539 for a valve cover gasket replacement, a new battery and a new air filter. does that seem excessive?
Yes, yes it does. 4 or 6 cylinder? If it's the 6, the valve cover gasket is going to be a bit more difficult to do.
There's no reason to replace the battery unless it's dead. Assuming it is dead, a new one is about $70. The air filter will be about $10, and Autozone.com lists your valve cover gasket (for the V6), at $20.99.
So, about $100 in parts, I'd estimate 2 hours in labour at $85/hour...I'd say that's pretty excessive.
