Renting Dvd's From High Street Stores Like Blockbuster

Surely if you sign up to a blockbuster deal (the online rental ones where the DVRAB come in via the post) you can get new releases pretty soon after they are released or if not you can bide the time by watching old films because they have a large library through the postal scheme.

I think the online DVD rental market is causing a dent in the stores so they obviously are trying to find means to keep customers going there.

I used to go to a nearby Blockbuster. It is very large but still lacks choice.

I don't know if this is typical but this Blockbuster is very disorganized. They usually are sold out of the newest releases on the first week or so after release.

What happens when you do find something you want is it takes 2 or 3 minutes for them to find it in one of their many drawers. When you get home the disc is often not in good condition (I have had 3 used games that were completely unplayable - they do NOT check the discs!).

They also ask you for a receipt when you return something, however they do not give out receipts unless you ask(?) This is terrible.

I have given up and switched to an online rental service which is giving me much better service (and there is no temptation to stock up and popcorn or ice cream!)

I work at Blockbusters and what you said is wrong. Perhaps your local store lacks proper training.

At my store we give a reciept out to all purchases, oh no 2 or 3 minutes to find a dvd better then waiting 24 hours for one to be posted.

And we dont check the dvd's. Sorry do you think the staff have all the time in the world to check every disc in the store. They are pre used not brand new.

Well I didn't say it was typical of all Blockbuster stores but it is my only experience with the chain. I do suspect that their main problem is poor management at a local level.

Do they have a national policy regarding receipts because they don't appear to be set to print out with each transaction?

I'm not being fussy but just because a DVD is pre-owned doesn't mean that they can sell anything. Just by turning the disc over you can see the extent to which it is scratched. If it doesn't look great they should check the discs.

The DVD-by-post service is not really exactly comparable, they provide very different services. It is however a lot less frustrating than the service I was getting from this branch of Blockbuster.

My shop has over 15,000 dvRAB. Sadly the stuff have work to do other then checking discs. Customers know the discs are ex rental or pre owned and therefore should not expect new discs. You could always ask to check the discs before you buy.

I used to visit Blockbusters on a regular basis when films were released for rental ages before they were available for sale.
Trouble now is that theryre for sale and rental at the same time and some single DVRAB are available at a low price at Tesco/Asda which makes you wonder is there any point in renting anymore.
Obvioulsly if you dont like buying DVRAB then renting is a great option.
