Renting a 9200 - existing customer

Actually N the 1, they waived every penny. I was aghast! I will be studying those invoices very closely!

They probably classified it as a retention offer even if you didn't directly said you wanted to disconnect.

All the existing clients usually have to pay the installation charge, no matter how much they pay a month, if they are good client or not, and how long the have been with the compagny

I would be surprised that there is such a law...

All clients of Express Vu, regardless the province were they live have to PAY FOR THE INSTALLATION, and that includes Quebec residets as well

Can you show us a link to that article?

Yes, I had that happen at a Loblaws in Ontario. I went to the customer service counter as I realised I had been overcharged and ended up paying $1.50 for an item marked at $11.50 that scanned at $18.00

I know things change, but as a comparison when I called in February and wanted to rent my 9200 I had free installation without asking - part of the promo I guess.

The $75 install fee was waived, the $100 rental certificate was charged on my CC and credited back on my next bill.

The promo deal also gave me 6 months free HD essentials (or whatever the $10/mth HD package is called)

Maybe the free install is now offset by the current offer of free HD channels for 10 months (@$10/mth = $100) vs the 6 I got (6@$10/th + install = $135).

I think the big difference is / was you were a new HD Customer, sixpac is an existing HD customer.

Standard billing from Express Vu indicates to Installers that the 9200 starts at $125 to install if the customer already has HD. This is waived if they do not have HD.

It does again however, show how complicated it is and how inconsistent the billing of customers can be.

Well.. just an update.

I had my install today. The installer came out on a Saturday which is awesome I think.

I had my existing 6100 and 5900 installed (with new dish, SW44 switch and some little switches so it would run over my existing in-wall cable) and he then installed the two new 3100's I purchased. In total it only cost me $80 which I think is a good deal.

So basically I don't think it was all to bad. The installer once he got here explains things a lot better then what you get from the Bev Reps over the phone. He was done in about 2 hours.

I am going to hold off getting my HD Pvr until the new ones come out.

But like Max.. I am going to growl for better pricing once I *rent* the new equipment.

Gimli, I'm French, I read the articl and it doesn't say that they shoudn't charge installation charges... It says that they can not charge you for something you didn't request. By requesting a rental, you are therefore requesting a professional installation... I will make a phonecall to the agency enforcing thoses law this week just to see if you theory is right...but I doubt it! I

There are TWO articles that I have quoted. Both are related in this case. The first says you can't be charged or made to pay or have an obligation for something other than what you buy/lease. That means they cannot legally OBLIGE you to get professional installation just because you're renting a receiver.
The second article covers their illegal practice of CHARGING you for the professional installation they are ILLEGALLY imposing on you.

Either way there's numerous past cases where both of these articles have been upheld as I've described. If you don't believe me hire your own legal asisstant to do the research for you.

The mere fact that I've NEVER had to pay for ANY professional installation should be proof enough that if you show them you know your rights they won't push back.

i just got 6 months free programming from BEV after they messed up my HD upgrade, charged me 75$ for hookup of aditional receiver. Wich they did not, they installed new dish and the 9200, my install had been quoted to me as free(the usual 100$ down 100$ credit crap)

Anyway after 2 bills where they faild to fix the problem, my 75$ extra fee has been reveresed and my 6 month free HD is now 6month FREE programing.... Im going to pay 20$ rental only for 6 months...

BEV... they screw some and they f@#$ some and everyone once in a while they come out looking lsmelling roses... We will see how bill number 3 comes out though before i throw a parade! :)

Gimli this is your understanding of the article...it doesn't clearly say that! My first language is French, I read both and also called "La protection du consommateur" and they told me that they could legally impose a professional installation

At the time Express Vu has a promo where clients that currently do not have Nimiq 2 rogramming could get HD receiver and upgrade FREE OF CHARGE. Instead of fighthing wth the dish, looking for signal on the sat 82, why not take advantage of the promo?
