Renaming this forum was a huge mistake

This forum has been around for years supporting Windows Mobile, PocketPC, etc. Now comes Windows Phone and you are lumping it with years and years of accumulated WM/PPC stuff, and they have nothing to do with each other!

WM/PPC stuff won't run on WP and vice versa. They are different animals.

Sure would like to see you put things back the way they were and create a new category.

That's ok. Unless a miracle occurs, with the momentum of iOS and Android, soon we will need only one big OBSOLETE forum to gather all these PalmOS, KIN, BB, and other dying OS's. ;)

BTW, I agree. Putting WM under Windows Phone makes about as much sense as putting Garnet under WebOS.

A couple of points:

1) Notice that the forum your posting is called "General Windows Mobile". Everything hasn't been renamed, just the general category.

2) I know it's a bit confusing, but Microsoft itself calls Windows Mobile-based devices "Windows phones". So there's not going to be completely separate areas for Microsoft's operating systems, especially considering Windows Mobile is officially at EOL.

3) Should I create a "General Windows Phone" forum?

Ed, I don't have a dog in this fight as I don't have any WinMo/WP7 devices. But just taking Microsoft's lead on this seems to be a mistake. If Palm had named WebOS as Palm7 or something, would you have lumped it in, just because they said so? I doubt it. Whatever MS calls it, WP7 should be separated.

And r0k, NO, I do NOT want Palm OS relegated to an obsolete forum. It's still kicking for me!

Well, Ed, you gotta admit that r0k has a solid point here. The very fact that WP shares appearance (and logo) with WCE/WPPC/WM, doesn't make it the same thing. Indeed, the former is as far away from the latter as WebOS is from Palm OS (Garnet/Pre-Garnet, whatever). If you gave the site a given granularity by creating a separate sub-forum for WebOS, provided it doesn't keep continuity with Palm OS, but rather turns out to be a different OS in its own right, I think a WP sub-forum is not a bad option. IMO, this sub-forum should keep the "General" moniker, in that it groups WCE, WPPC & WM. But that new sub-forum to be considered, should only be named Windows Phone. Yet, of course, there's always the possibility that the people at Microsoft eventually do the same thing they did with WP, cutting continuity when WP8 arrives, duh.

I just wanted to chim in with my support of windows phone.
I am 35, have loved stand alone PDA's starting with the palm lifedrive moving to the hp ipaq 210 (loved both). I just owned an HTC HD2 and used strictly as a PDA (didn't use the phone function at all). Now I am excited about Windows phone 7 (don't really like apple a lot, ask me sometime to discuss if you want)
I am bidding on Ebay on an HTC HD7 (T-Mobile) and plan on using this for a stand alone PDA as well. Anyway, just wanted to say I'm a windows phone fan or really want to be, can't wait to try it out, have youtubed many many reviews. One thing that does disappoint me is that there is no user friendly slot for micro SD cards, I found that functionality with version 6 and 6.5 a lot of fun.

Cheering for WP7!!!

Wow, WP7 as a non cellular connected pda, personally can't see anything but frustration in your future friend, but am open to be shown otherwise.

Like Hook said, do let us know.

I have to point out that making a separate area for webOS was a mistake. If you take a look in the webOS forum, be careful to not trip over the tumbleweeds that are the only sign of life.

I'd like to handle things better with Windows Phone 7. Having separate sub-forums under a single "Windows Phone" name seems like the logical option.

I am hoping for the best and am very optimistic with my future WP7 HD7. I have used the HD2 as a stand alone and it worked great for me, as long as I had wifi available i could access my emails and watch youtube videos among everything else that required a data connection or wifi connection.
I am strongly anticipating no troubles with the new OS.
I will post my success or otherwise when I get my device.

OK, the WebOS wasn't the thrill of the year, but nobody can see the future, I bet you put the best of all expectations on it when you opened that sub-forum. Ed, I think nobody here has an objection about how you run the place (not that it would make a difference if somebody did anyway ). And, without trying to make the subject bigger, I think that gathering the WP7 with the legacy platform is gonna pull up a lot of confusion. Lots of posters will refer to it seeking for advice only to receive replies like "this is a different platform". Well, just like Varjak, I actually have "no dog in this fight" either. Whatever you decide, it'll be OK :)

I very recently received my Htc HD7 and I Love it!!!
I have had no trouble with any of the apps and the OS works flawlessly.
I am using the phone as a stand alone PDA and no regrets so far

I think the only reason for the tumbleweeds is that there are virtually no WebOS devices and the uptake on the only two (or 3 if you want to include the upgrade to the Pre) has been fairly low. If HP will ever squeeze something out, that will change.

Although the WP7 devices are just beginning to come out, the situation is much the same.

I started this thread but in all fairness after 12 years of using Windows Mobile, PocketPC, and Windows CE way back to 2.0.

I've loaded Android on my formerly Windows Mobile 6.5 HD2 and have no intention of looking back. Really folks, just look at the activity here and then check out XDA for ONE THREAD with 15,000 replies! Over 2 million views of a single thread! If you want the future it's not going to be with M$.

Gosh I hated writing that, I had so many years of tweaking and playing with Windows, but it feels good getting it off my chest.
