You not only gave Ren and Stimpy a distinction it does not have (The Flintstones and Yogi Bear were TV cartoons written by storyboard artists and not scripts. Hell, there were probably a bunch of 80's cartoons that used storyboards), but the tone of your post strong implies that cartoons with writer input are somehow intrinsically inferior to cartoons with no input by anyone but cartoonists.
And by cartoonist, what are we even talking about? Storyboard artists? people not in tune with the Simpsons/Family Guy/Animaniacs style of cartoon? Not every cartoon where storyboards and artists are king is a hit, you know.
I'm sorry, its just that when I hear this oft-repeated, elitist fallacy lionizing a not-infallible group of animation people over another, I want to scram.
