Removing SIM card in E71

I've been using a loaner E71 for the past couple of weeks through the S60 Ambassadors program. I mainly use it during the week as a work phone and then switch back to the N82 on weekends or evenings.

I have found that taking my SIM card out of the E71 slot to be a challenge and usually have to use a pair of tweezers. In doing this, I'm starting to chip the edges of the SIM.

I'm considering getting the E71 as a business-oriented phone (the N82 will still be my preferred device), but this SIM card removal issue has me re-thinking that plan.

Any suggestions from E71 owners on how to more easily remove the SIM?

I switch mine a lot too and have found that the best way for me is to press down on the sim with a finger and simultaneously slide the sim out. Like already said, it works best with a clean dry finger to get good traction.
 
Note to self; don't buy any phones from janddi :) but ya I just put some downward pressure on sim and pull out.. Honestly how often do u pull out ur sim?
 
Velcro is a responsibility, not a right!

If you are removing the SIM frequently, like cbreze said - use clear tape and fold it over on itself at the bottom. Just give a tug when you wanna remove it.
 
I think that some of us move SIM around a lot more than people expect.

My normal carry device is an Xperia X1a, although this is likely to change to the E71-2 very soon.

The Xperia is great in most situations, but you'll find yourself frequently wanting to carry a smaller and more convenient device like the E71-2. Compared to the E71-2, the Xperia seems bulky and insecure when you're in an environment where you're required to be more active and carry the phone in a jeans pocket in a way that might cause pressure to be constantly on the device.

I don't think manufacturers think about those of us who have to change SIM very often. It's very complicated removing the battery cover of the E71-2, for example.

And perhaps the greatest tragedy is that the frequent removal of the battery cover on the Xperia has probably contributed to the huge number of warranty claims against Sony Ericsson because of the infamous cracked case issues.

I've never heard of a SIM clone device, but I'll hit eBay and have a look. That'd solve the issue for all of us. Not sure AT&T will like that very much. :-)
 
I usually have a harder time getting the SIM into the slot. It is not as bad as a SE w580 though, where you have to have a long enough fingernail to push the SIM in far enough for it to "click" into place.
 
I just swipe my index finger down across the exposed area of the SIM and it comes out very easily. I'm not sure how anyone can be having this kind of problem. It's actually move of an ordeal to get the SIM in and out of my N95-4 with the hokey SIM holder.
 
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll give them a try over the next few days. I'm particularly interested in the tape method, and the eraser sounds good also.

Gorgonesh and 1800bigk - I've tried just using finger pressure to slide it out, but either my fingers were too oily or my SIM just fits too snuggly in the slot, and I couldn't get it to budge.

If I do end up getting the E71, this would be first time I would be switching frequently between phones. Installing and removing the SIM has never been a major concern before now, and it does seem that the ease of this operation is an afterthought by the manufacturers.

Phone manufacturers need to start taking this into account when they design new phones. A sim slot on the side of the phone would be ideal. Just like the micro sd memory card slot on the E71. What I wouldn't give to have access to the sim card without having to remove the damn back cover
 
Now that you mention it, I remember it being a little snug when I first got it but it loosens up over time. It comes out very easily for me at this point. Also make sure you press down on the card since the contacts are spring loaded. This will move the top of the SIM away from the carrier and remove the friction that's on the SIM. It will become easier over time as you slide the SIM in and out.
 
I often swap from my Bold to my E71-2 and I find the easiest way without using tools is the battery cover door. I use the top corner of the door(Part near the camea). Very light sliding pressure and it slides out.
