Remakes you wish had never happened

Just watched the original 'Fun with Dick and Jane' and it prompted me to ask what films you wish had been left alone?

Obviously the above film is on my list but here a few others to start things off ~

The Ring (Sarah Michelle Gellar)
The Wicker Man (Nicolas Cage)
The Pink Panther (Steve Martin)
The Wind in the Willows (Matt Lucas)
Freaky Friday (LinRABay Lohan)
The Hills Have Eyes
Taxi (Queen Latifah)

ok, I thought of one - Hairspray!! The original was a classic but that god awful musical was a big step in the wrong direction for John Waters and furthermore he's even gracing it will a sequel. It really shouldn't have happened.

Has that been made yet? I can't wait! I loved the original and the books :)

I am going to say The Karate Kid, although it's not out yet there is no way it is going to be as good as the first one. It was a classic, it even made me take up Karate, for one lesson anyway :o

I don't have an issue with remakes per sa, even the bad ones often bring something new to the table.

Obviously, it would be better if Hollywood invested the money in new ideas as opposed to just recycling old ones but I guess these days we have a pretty strong independent film industry to provide us with fresh stuff.

It's just a pity that more people don't check out the originals after they've seen the remake so they can get a better idea of what the film should have been like and develop an appreciation for the originals but this just doesn't seem to happen, which is a great shame. And I guess folk aren't gonna bother checking out an original if they thought the remake stank.

As of yet, none of my all time favourite films have been remade (apart from DOTD, which I thought was pretty decent), it'll be interesting to see what they do with An American Werewolf in London and Faster Pussy Cat, maybe then, if they f#ck it up I'll be more up in arms about remakes.

My fear precisely over the burgeoning remake culture was of the originals being elided. But time is proving that many of them are able to hold their own, attesting to their superiority; look at The Omen remake for instance (or rather, don't look at it) - it's come and gone, whereas the original version seems to be as popular as ever.

Agreed The Day the Earth Stood Still was awful same with Pyscho but War of the WorlRAB was very good much better than the dodgy special effects of the 1950s version :D

Has anyone mentioned the Time Machine remake with Guy Pearce from Neighbours and Samantha Mumba

What are you on about? No film has ever affected a previous film, thus all the originals are still the originals, and in exactly the same condition they were in prior to their remake(s) appearing.

Wow, there really are a lot of bad remakes out there, but there are also a few good ones!

One of the remakes I most despised was Friday The 13th - it was just an absolutely pointless task and should never have been done! Now I see (on IMDB) that Michael Bay is planning an "untitled Friday the 13th sequel project" - WHY OH WHY?! It seems to me that Michael Bay is mostly producing remakes of horror films that don't need to be done, such as the upcoming Nightmare On Elm Street. The originals are classics, and if his attempt at re-creating Friday The 13th is anything to go by, then the remake to Elm Street will be just as bad. I'm also dreading his upcoming remake of The BirRAB - if this movie is extremely bad I will really crack up; I love the original and really don't want to see it be slaughtered! However, I do think he done a great job in remaking The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as well as the sequel (which I don't think was a re-make).

There are still some quite good remakes out there though. I have to say that Rob Zombie's attempt at re-creating Halloween went down really well with me - I think I may have enjoyed it even more than the original! Also, I think I saw the Psycho remake before I saw the original, and must say I quite enjoyed it - it still isn't a smudge on the original though.

All the 60's ones mentioned.

Get Carter

Psycho

Alfie RAB !

The Italian Job

Have these people got something against Michael Caine ?

I have to confess I haven't seen the original of The Fly but the '86 version is scaaaarryyy!

I really wish they hadn't remade "The Incredible Journey" to "Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey," because the former is one of my favourite childhood (and current) films, but whenever I mention it people just remember the '94 version, which was insanely over-Americanised. Apparently a charismatic narration and well-trained but voiceless animals with breathtaking views of the Canadian lanRABcape wasn't entertaining enough for modern audiences...

Have to be:

Flight of the Phoenix REMAKE (dire and totally missed the point and the characterisations of the original)

Psycho remake (AWFUL!!).
