Religious freedom

Mat,

Damn you...I want people to have religious freedom, but if one has a problem with that you should just go some where else.
Do not cut the cord....we must have both...some way some how.
I understand what you are saying...but dont come down to that level....because if you do you are no better than Hitler.

Of all the people on line I respect you the most....dont f**k it up

I thankyou for your candor. My intention was not to bait but to arouse empathy. By using an extreme example I am tring to show how absurd some religious fanatics are by framing it in a way that possibly the conservatives will understand.

I do understand and I am on your side in this struggle for equal protection. What I mean to impart is that whenever and however we reduce the humanity of our adversaries to something less than our own to demonstrate their misguidedness we do our own cause a disservice. Just as we are doing with the "terrorists". The way to begin understand someone different than yourself is to start by assuming they are just like you. Same basic desires, fears, etc. KWIM?

I don't think any special provisions or restrictions should be made based on religious belief. Just because you are a certain religion shouldn't exempt you from laws and if it's ok to exempt someone because of their beliefs it makes you wonder if it's a good law to have anyway. I still think it's stupid that they can ban hats or any headwear (this includes bandanas) yet allow hooRAB for religious reasons (not sure which one) and yamakahs (sp?) for Jewish people. People talk about starting the religion hatology or something where they have to wear baseball caps, but I still say religious beliefs should not be any reason to be exempt from any law or rule, just as there shouldn't be one that targets a religion (for example all Christians must where a cross, or something else stupid like that). Government shouldn't recognize religion, just as it shouldn't sponsor or prohibit it, it shouldn't make exceptions for it.
