register as S corporation?

Hi I use turbotax for doing my taxes as subcontractor and every time it tells me that I would be better off by opening s-corporation rather then doing taxes as regular subcontractor.
Can somebody please explain me what does it mean to register as S corporation and all other stuff I might need to know?
