reggie perrin season 2

They should never try to remake programmes that are so ingrained in the public's memory. It will always be compared to the original and it will nearly always fail.

It's like trying to remake Monty Python with 6 different people. Why keep trying to replicate what has already been made. Get new, decent stuff written.

Not as good as the original. Why don't writers make their programmes? Do they really lack that much ideas that they have to copy an old show?

Seems unlikely that they'll get anything as original as that. I'm not even sure they are attempting to follow the original second series that closely. Martin Clunes doesn't even have the right build for an office executive. Let's hope they haven't lined up a third series as the original in '78/79 was a very weak and pallid effort itself.

First episode of the second series is better than the first series but I had trouble working out if they knew he was still alive or not as the workers seemed to be mourning him, the boss was begging him to come back and the wife and family seemed to know he faked his death?

So it's back and nothing's changed. Same old canned (or manipulated) laughter track, same lack of gags or pathos, plus they didn't even bother having him try starting a new identity after his night on the beach. No, he decides to just trundle home instead so we have to endure his tedious wife and co-workers again. What a load of crap!

Personally I find the scenes with Fay Ripley terrible because, apart from the fact she's one of the worst actors around, there's no chemistry between Clunes and her.
