reggie perrin season 2

Series 2? Surely they're not going to make a second series of the new version? It was rubbish! If they've got the money, just show the original series again!

I think pissawful is a rather strong it wasn't Reggie Perrin in the Rossiter sense by any stretch of the imagination but it was funny for what it was.

Fair enough - to be fair I had much the same feelings about the new star trek movie I thought that was piss awful but then to me it wasn't real star trek no more than the Martin Clunes version of Reggie Perrin was Reggie Perrin.

t was definately commisioned for a second series last year after the first one had aired. I was expecting it in the spring but no sign as yet.

I loved the original but also really liked the new one when viewed in its own right rather than compared with the original.
Anyone know if it repeated, as I have just missed the first 15 mins?

I would agree with this (if you drop the "really") but I'm afraid tonight's episode was a bit poor and it looks like writers Simon Nye and David Nobbs don't know where they want to take the series.

I'll stick with it to see if they can come up with something as quirky as the original show's Grot.

I think if you saw the original its very hard to distance the memory as the characters all worked so brilliantly and are up there with the best in ensemble comedies. Trying to copy that is near impossible. If the Beeb was going to work with Martin Clunes(after many years at ITV) it might have been worth coming up with a new comedy idea.

The "Grot" concept in the original was a brilliant move for the second series with Reggie and CJ switch of status well worth watching.

I am actually struggling to remember at what point did he "dissappear" and come back in his fake bearRAB as a pig farmer and other jobs and disguises. Was it the 3rd series, The rise and fall.......?

Yeah one series I could accept and wasn't bad in places with the whole not knowing where his life was going and his confusion about his job but I watched last night and thought, no it's not something you can drag out for a second series, not strong enough in it's comedy lines to make it funny and the concept was all seen in the first series.

I won't be watching any more I don't think but at that time, there really was nothing else on, even on all the digital channels.

From memory the first two series covered

-Reggie having his breakdown
-leaving clothes on beach
-living new life as pig farmer etc
-misses Elizabeth so comes back as 'long lost friend Martin Wellbourne'
-remarries Elizabeth
-reemployed at Sunshine Desserts as Martin
-is exposed as Reggie & sacked
-sets up Grot
-Grot is run-away success - employs his old co workers from Sunshine desserts
-gets bored
-He and Elizabeth run off.

Typing that has made me realise whats wrong with this 're-imagining' - nothing is really happening. Within the above we also got stories like Reggie and Joan almost getting it together for real and the more complex family relationships with Uncle Jimmy and the adult Perrin children.

For those of us that remember the original this really is just a watered down pastiche.:(
