how the Iraq war turned out? Initially the invasion of Iraq by USA troops appeared to go amazingly well with the defeat of Saddam Hussein's army occurring quite quickly and with the Marines handing it over to the army.

But shortly after that period, the country was plunged into violence by Bin Laden protege Abu Musab Zarqawi and his terror group. They beheaded and bombed both Shia and Sunnis in an effort to try and provoke a civil war and maintain Iraq as a safe haven for Al Qaeda. During this period things started to look pretty hopeless as Zarqawi bombed any and every UN mission designed to instill stability.

In my view is was quite fortunate that we had a leader like George W. Bush who followed guidance from his former rival John McCain and sought to enact a very intensive and detailed surge strategy that fostered alliances with the Sunnis who temporarily partnered with Al Qaeda, but was weary of them once they saw first hand what they were about. Many in this country did not wish to enact this surge strategy and instead demanded a withdrawal, even if such a withdrawal caused genocide of Iraqis.

Anyway, how do you feel about how the Iraq war turned out?

Still a mistake that tipped the regional power to Iran. Further, when the occupation ends, we'll see how this actually worked out.

The surge was definitely the right choice.
Since the troops have pulled back the
country is adjusting pretty well.
Kudos to Bush for the surge and
kudos to Obama for staying with
Bush's lead which made this war successful.
