Regarding Fan Fiction

I knew someone on TV.com (not going to identify him by name) who was so into his fan fiction ideas for a certain animated TV series that he routinely swore that his ideas would one day end up on the show...despite the fact that the series in question ended about 2 years previously at that time.

He's 4EverGreen (aka Jason Cantu) right? I see him post his ideas a lot, and he keeps swearing that he'll make it into the animation biz.

No, the guy I'm thinking about goes by a different user name, but I'm not going to reveal it, because Miss Manners wouldn't approve. I don't want to make a public spectacle of the guy. He pretty much does that to himself on a regular basis.

I prefer fancomics over fanfics. And the only fancomics I enjoy are stuff that's really really well drawn, or if it's satire.
In fact there's very few fancomics I enjoy. One of which is of course, Bleedman's PPG Doujinshi.

I typically can't go through fanfics myself. I really feel that a majority of the writers of said pieces really don't care about writing good stories, and only write them to add to said shows about what they want to see, like more time with their favorite characters, for example. I'm sure there are some good ones out there, but I'm not going to look anytime soon.

There is 1 fanfic I constantly read, though, and not because it's good. The reverse, acutally. Check my sig to see what I mean.

Oh, good Lord.

I've dipped my pen into the fanfiction well a few times in the past, mostly for "Pok?mon" (which I've always felt didn't live up to its full potential). None of what I've come up with is what I'd call canonical, but it did help in the development of my creative writing skills.

I like some aspects of his work, yes, primarily his fun take on PPG and Dexter. Some of the Grimm stuff, however, with the 9/11 reference (jeez, his ignorance on how insensitive that was is appalling) and the incestuous implications he put into the relationship between "Grimm Jr." and his sister...:ack: I could totally have lived without that...but you know who goes into raptures over that junk? The very dweebs I'm talking about. For my part, I think Bleedman is very talented and much of his work is a fun read. But I don't consider him a genius, or a particularly good writer, primarily because of the storylines mentioned above.

Cartoons have been known to joke about the event that start the first world war, and Family Guy joked about Hitler's suicide. I don't really find it that offensive, depending on when he did it. 6 yeas has past, the time for a bit light hearted jokes has come.

I'm not that big on fanfiction on any medium, be it cartoons, video games, etc. There are a few stories here & there that I really like because they make an effort to avoid OOC moments & it wrote it in a way that you would totally believe it could play out that way because of the care they took in understanding the characters, story, setting, an all that good stuff.

Unforuntely there are way too many stories that try to push a unlikely pairing or try to cement an established pairing in a completely OOC manner. And my biggest pet peeve, self insertion...There's nothing lamer IMO!

I dunno, it's very hard to really get into fanfiction because outside of short one-shots, it takes a bit a time to read & decide wheter you like the story or not, whereas with fanart, you can make a judgement within 3 seconds of view the pic.
