Regarding Expectations

Have you ever been overly enthusiastic about an animated program when you first learned about it, only to be seriously disappointed when you actually watched some episodes after the series premiered? If so, which animated program was it and what did you find wrong with it that caused you to feel let down?

Well, while that never happened to me, the exact opposite did: I saw commercials for/heard about a series and was pretty disappointed. However, once the series actually aired, it turned out better than I originally thought, and I ended up enjoying it. It happened to me with two shows: "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" and "Three Deilvery". With "Flapjack", while the art was great, I thought they would never be able to make the idea work and they would fail at it. Thus making a horrible cartoon. The writing turned out to be a bit more than decent. With "Three Deilvery", I thought the basic premise was simply absurd. And it still is...but they were able to make it work and become a sensible action cartoon with some decent writing.

I don't really expect perfection to be honest, just effort. As long as the writer and creative team have some ambition, it won't leave a sour taste in my mouth.

TMNT (2003)'s 6th Season: Fast Forward

While the nearly the rest of the fanbase had negative thoughts regarding it before it aired, I was one of the few that defended it and supported it in the hopes that (despite all the changes we had been hearing about) it would still be as great as the rest of the show had been.

To say I was disappointed with what I saw is an understatement...

I first heard of Oban Star-Racers in a french animation magazine and saw the pilot/trailer a good five years before it aired. When I finally saw the finished episodes, I can't say I was dissapointed, the series is awesome, but it was kinda different from the image I had in my mind. First they switched to traditional animation when after seeing the trailer I expected full CG. And I also had imagined Molly, the main character, to be an adult, not a 15 year old girl.

Yeah,really.

I don't know for sure if that's ever happened to me.If your like me you just kind of go with the flow and tolerate most shows.Just because I watch it that doesn't mean it's my favorite show.I obsess over things I don't watch as much rather then things I watch a lot most of these days.

Storm Hawks. When I saw the first ad, I was like " Just great..." in a sarcastic way.

And once I saw the first episode, I was like " JUST GREAT!", in the non-sarcastic way.:D

After reading the premise of W.I.T.C.H., I thought it would be a show that I would love. It seemed to have everything that I like; mystical worlds, magical elements, teams of girls with different powers, etc. So I decided to watch the first two episodes. My GOD, does this show have stupid dialogue. The art wasn't that great, either. In addition, the pacing and the point of view transitions were so clumsy I wanted to beat myself over the head. I think I'll just let this dog lie. Maybe the original language version was better.

Well, it's American, so.. don't think that's going to help you. Though the second season is a lot better than the first, and wins the "favorite-action-cartoon-of-the-last-decade-not-part-of-the-DCAU" award for me. Ironically, I've compared all action shows since W.I.T.C.H. to it and all of them have feel flat on their face and not lived up, which is where my cynic attitude stems from. Though maybe I'm a bit biased since it's a fantasy show and I love fantasy.

How about a reversal? After reading numerous posts about how horrible the Larry Doyle Looney Tunes shorts were, I watched them and didn't have the vitriolic reaction that others did. (Well, except for "Cock-a-Doodle Duel")

For years, I saw endless praise for "The Fairly OddParents" on the Internet, and decided that I should give it a look for myself. And then I did, and it was one of the lamest things I'd ever seen.

Of course, after that, I found out that the episode I'd watched was from Season 5, which fans have determined to be the worst season ever. Apparently, from what I've gathered, there are only a select few episodes from each season that are absolutely brilliant, and the rest range from mediocre to awful. I really don't want to have to pick and choose which episodes of a show I watch - if it has no quality consistency from episode to episode, then I generally don't bother with it.
