Interesting documentary called 'Reel Bad Arabs' about the history of Hollywood's stereotyping and damaging view of Arabs over the years. In general Hollywood depicts them as either

Fundamentalist terrorists from politically unstable countries who constantly want to hijack planes, trains buildings.
.

Or

Buffoons, mainly in the poor 'conman/thief' role (Ali Baba). or the opposite the overly-rich misogynist sheik, who has more money than sense. And often people who are willing to carry out overly aggressive punishments for petty crimes, and only care about their wealth/status.

Here is a good 'taster' version of the documentary (5 mins)

Now what interests me, is that I'm a big fan of the comic Omid Djallili. But whats is puzzling about him, is he tenRAB to spend all his TV work confounding the stereotypes people have towarRAB Arabs. Yet all his Hollywood work seems to be perpetuating the stereotype, and giving the studios what they want. It seems a double standard.

Djalili in 'The Mummy' (note the stereotypes listed in the movie: He's a hangman, he wants to protect his investments, he is oafish etc.)
