Sometimes I do. It is weird, my spine pain radiates discomfort to the chest, if it is mid back, I feel funny in the esophogus, if the pain is higher, it can affect my throat.

Today I had burning in upper abdominal again. the Natrium Phos took it away!! I urge you all to give it a try.

Don't know if you're on this board anymore...hoping you are.

A while back you were questioning if your pain between the shoulder blades was b/c of reflux or if it was your spine. Did you ever find out???

Also I noticed you had a scope done, but didn't see anything about the results.

Thanks!

going to see the doctor tomorrow, going to ask again for an endoscopy and will not take no for an answer. Also I want a scan of my spine. Tonight the pain and pressure is really bad. When I stretch out my upper back the middle to upper spine hurts, so I am guessing it is muscle related. The nerves must be irritated, it also causes a bit of head and chest pressure sometimes as well....like it affects my blood pressure. So strange.

Also I have been on a PPI for the last two years because the doctor assumed the pain was acid related.

Yes I've had the scope twice now. The first time before any treatment my esophagus was fine but they said I had chronic gastritis. After a years worth of PPI therapy and gallbladder removal I had mild erosion in the esophagus and chronic gastritis. Go figure.

Based on the findings of the endoscopy my back pain is most likely caused from something other than the reflux although reflux can't be completely ruled out. I've continued doing the exercises I was shown for foward head posture and started doing Tai-chi and the back has steadily improved. I also posted the other thread

If you have any other questions let me know

Well my pain starts mid morning, after my first meal. Gradually gets worse as the day goes on. Feels like a swollen throbbing feeling in my upper mid spine. Lots of pressure as well. Can you relate? I'm always worrying that I have an esophagus problem.

This discomfort is just recent and every day......somedays it doesn't bother me until I eat, then I think the eating is irritating my back. I am freaking that it is something very serious. I guess we all do. I am going to the dr. tomorrow and I know he'll want to send me for tests, which is fine, but then I will have that anxiety to deal with, waiting for that. I have three little kiRAB and my biggest fear is having something happen to me. I am my own worst enemy I know and probably reading other's stories is not the best thing to be doing--I'm just one to hang out to anyone's similar story that turned out fine...that is what I need to hear right now. But I am soooooo freaked out inside.

Update

Went to the doctor on Tuesday. Barium test came back good. No reflux. No hiatel hernia. No ulcers. No irregularities. BUT...she has finally agreed to an upper endoscopy but says she doubts there will be anything wrong. Also will be having an x-ray of my spine.

Her theory is that my middle spine is very irritated, hence the pressure feeling in my chest and pain in the middle back...said to go for a massage. I have also been applying ice and heat to my middle spine and it has helped immensely. Been also doing back stregnthening exercises and stretches. It still feels a little tight but the pain is gone.

As for the pain under the rib, she feels my bowels aren't working efficiently and causing everything from the colon to the stomache to back up and cause irritation. This makes a lot of sense to me, so I went for a colonics. The nurse who did it also agreed that my colon is in spasm and therefore not emptying as well as it should. It's a domino affect from the colon all through the GI tract.

I go for two more colonics over the next couple weeks and am going to be taking a natural anti-inflammatory product to get my GI on track again.

Also, I have been off my Pantaloc for five days now. So far so good. Yesterday I had a burning under both ribs and I took a homeopathic called Natrium Phos 6x and it worked great to get rid of the burning!! I hope I never have to go on a PPI again!

Wish me luck!

Generally speaking my upper back pain increased as the day went on and the pain could be very intense at times. Certain activities also seem to set it off, waxing the car was a big one. You basically have to go thru a process of elimination to diagnose the cause. Of course this process should be guided by your doctor.

Have you tried PPI therapy? If so did it help back pain?

Have you had a endoscopy? If so did it show anything that might explain the back pain?

Are there any triggers that seem to affect the pain?

You get the idea............

The good news is that there is no damage done if while you're waiting for the diagnostic tests you follow the standard protocol for the treatment of forward head posture. The worst that can happen is it does nothing to relieve you back pain. Try doing simple chest stretches throughout the day. Be aware of your posture and keep your shoulders pulled back and down if they typically round forward.

Good luck and keep after the doctors until they give you some satisfactory answerers.

I know how you feel. I have two little boys and believe me my anxiety can get the best of me at times and make all the symptoms worse. I found the worst thing you can do is try to self diagnose....you look up a simple symptoms and everything is the worst case scenario. Then you worry, worry, worry that you have this disease...that disease and it builRAB up and up and then you're a bundle of nerves.

I'm trying to relax more and not dwell on it so much. I know, hard to do when you're in pain and not feeling right. Have you ever gone to a chiropractor for your back pain? Have you had your spine x-rayed. The more tests the doctors do...the better. At least you'll get some answers. What do you do to try and relax and deal with stress?

I don't want anymore medications to disguise the real problem. I am looking forward to the endoscopy so that I can put my mind at ease that I'm not damaging my esophagus and also they can look for irritation of the stomache, etc. I'm going to start the anti-inflammatory treatment (natural...not drugs) next week and hope that balances out my body.

THanks for your quick reply. Sometimes I think this will just go away--I pray it will--and other times I think the worst......I know I shouldn't be on this computer. It is my demon!!!!!

Yes I have been to a naturopath, chiropractor, and most recently an osteopath. I am contemplating acupuncture but now I feel I need better medical managment. I am so careful about what I eat, I take Nexium and Ranitidine every day faithfully, plus some other herbs (licorise, alkalizing minerals) and vitamins. But symptoms like this freak me out so badly. I can live with reflux but not with what could develop more seriously. I know risk factors and I am low risk, except for the chronic reflux even on medications. ANd I am only 41, otherwise healthy. I just need reassurance.........like most of us on here. My sleep has been terrible lately; one night I drempt all night about it and "what if"......waking up in a panic several times--but maybe that' actually reflux in my throat, causing me to have a choking feeling.

Anyhow.....thanks again for your note!

It's good to hear you have the attention of your doctor and have made some progress. Based off of information from several of your posts I think there is a good possibility that your upper back pain is caused from forward head posture. If so, I know from personal experience that you don't want to stretch out your upper back muscles. Stretching them will only aggravate the problem. I'll recommend an online publication by Dr. Bookspan, How To Fix Your Own Neck Pain. It's a simple little online publication that explains some common back problems and methoRAB to correct them. I spent hundreRAB of dollars going to PT to learn what's written in this small online book.

Best of luck................Red

Back pain (though pain is a strong word--more like discomfort) is my MAIN symptom of GERD, sometimes my only! Usually it is on the right side, just under my shoulder blade...lately it's been a little lower and more central....it worries me too.......I keep telling myself that most cancers aren't painful but that worries me greatly.......

I am 43. I think we have a lot in common in how we're dealing with this. Some nights I dream I'm choking on something...or I can't swallow and catch my breath. You would know if you have acid going into your throat, b/c you would be able to taste it. It is all related to anxiety!!

I'm glad you're taking the licorise and the alkalizing minerals, do you know what blood type you are?? I'm blood type A and with that we tend to be to acidic.

Do you know about colonics? When I went to my appointment last week, she said that if your GI tract is all irritated and inflamed, pretty much everything that you put into it isn't going to agree with you until it is gone. I am notoriouse for trying new things and giving up to soon b/c they aren't working. She said it could take a month b/f you notice results and to hang in there.

You need to get rid of the inflammation in order for your body to balance out. I would suggest going back to your naturopath and ask about what you can do to get rid of the inflammation. The product I"m going to use is called "UltraInflamx360" put out by a very reputable company called Metagenics. I say reputable b/c they research and clinically test their products thoroughly.

Did/do you ever feel pressure while swallowing, down low? I have started to feel that (not happy!!) but otherwise my symptoms sound like yours!

You mentioned bout pain under your breast, what kind of pain are we talking about?Take care:(
