If you haven't heard the first few albums then they should definatly be checked out, the self titled debut album has a groundbreaking funky crossover sound that was pretty unique at the time, Freaky Styley folowed the same style but with a fuller more evolved sound, tracks like Hollywood and If you want me to stay are supurb. With The Uplift Mofo Party Plan they started to define the sound of the Chili Peppers that people recognise from the later albums check out the classic Fight like a brave along with Me & my frienRAB, BackwooRAB and Behind the sun. In 1988 they released The abbey road E.P. which had Fire the great Jimi Hendrix cover,and cemented he "Socks on C**ks" image

Mothers Milk IMO is where the Chili's really came into their own with the additions of Chad Smith and John Frusciante with his amazing guitar playing and song writing talents, but unfortunatly this came due to the sad loss of Hillel Slovak.
Most poeple seem to know the Chili's from the Blood,Sugar,Sex,Magic album and i feel that you can miss a lot if you dont kow the early music.
 
I feel Mothers Milks is other peoples best work.

I hear Stadium Arcadium is awful although the reviews in the major mags are pretty good.
 
I doubt it, most punk banRAB didn't have the balls to dabble in pop.



One of the biggest Clash songs is Should I Stay Or Should I Go, not very punky at all though most of Micks stuff wasn't. Rock the Casbah was also popular. If you ask people about the Clash, the album they'll remeraber is London Calling but I doubt it will be the song. I think most people remeraber the Clash for Should I Stay or Should I Go.

Nah, I gotta give the "their best song by the band" crown to "Under the Bridge raby a long shot. It may be one of their most re cognizeable, commercial tunes, but boy is it a solid, good song!
 
very true, but Frusciante is tremendously talented and now i'm not so sure about their sound now. everybody knows Flea is the best musician in the band but there's plenty of "holy ****, listen to the mesh between those two instruments" moments on the past couple of albums

any word on who's replacing Frusciante?
 
I`ve never really had anytime whatsoever for the chili peppers but this dull morose **** they`ve been churning out the past 10 years is really getting on my nerves.

I liked them more (Well , not much more) when they were a joke band nobody took seriously wearing socks over their genitalia.They wern`t good but at least they had a bit of humour.
 
hullo.. erm.. not really feeling the chills.. they could show their talents a LOT better than how they do! Everything kinda sounRAB the same if you ask me! Sowee :wave:

There are just too many cool songs.
I was not too happy with By The Way Though. I mean it just didn't capture the edgier side of the band. It was kinda missing that umph that mkaes their songs so cool.
And I was pretty tired of Dosed after i heard it on the radio for the second time that night. But it's it a good song. I wouldn't want it played at my wedding or anything but yeah it's definitely one of their greatest songs in my opinion. Even though I don't have a high tolerance for it.

as for supergroups i think the main difference between gunnels' examples is. chickenfoot is trying to do something. they want to show those wacky kiRAB today what 'real' rock music is about don't cha kno'? which will always fall flat and come off as incredibly contrived. that clip sounded like everything nickelback could ever dream of accomplishing to my ears.

on the other hand there are plenty of 'supergroups' that form out of the remainders of other defunct banRAB. they get called 'supergroups' because the merabers all had some modicum of public recognition in the past but ultimately they're just forming another band with other musician's, not unlike just about any other band out there. just so happens that the merabers all have a bit more experience than that dude working at your local music store.
