Red Hot Chili Peppers

To me BSSM is just a more polished/refined version of their earlier work. Kiedis is more subdued, Frusciante's play is clean and crisp, and Flea/Smith throw down some crazy awesome rhythms. But a song like 'Fight Like a Brave' would have been a huge hit if it had been recorded during BSSM.

Plus you gotta throw in one of the greatest ballaRAB of all-time, 'Under the Bridge', and a couple of other slow songs...

I shall laugh my ass off at anyone who attempts to compare RHCP to...that..."band".

The new single, "Dani California", is an interesting song at least. It takes a while to build up, and then become really enjoyable I think, but when it does, it really is a great song.

That video is awesome too.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are most probably my all time favourite band, i can remeraber being blown away seeing them live at Nottingham Rock City in 1990 when i was only 18! and have been a massive fan since. I think there progression has been fantastic and i can find a album of there's to enjoy whatever mood i am in. As for favourite tracks thats a tough one but overall it would have to be either Otherside or If you want me to stay.

Mine would be like this - I guess I'm the one to hold the unpopular opinion that By the Way is a good album.

Mother's Milk
BSSM
Freaky Styley
Uplift Mofo Party Plan

----

One Hot Minute
S/T
By the Way

----

Californication
Stadium Arcadium

No, I love it. John Frusciante's guitar work is the best its been, the songwriting is awesome and I think it only gets better the more you listen to it. The lyrics in some of the songs are very personal and it is good to see that side of the Chili Peppers as well as the fun side that we are so used to!!!

The Chili Peppers are defintly one of the best in there genre. Has anyone ever read Scar Tissue (Anthony Kiedis's bio) ? I'm reading it right now and so far its pretty good...alot of drugs, sex and rock n roll you might say.

My favorite RHCP songs,

Don't Forget Me
Wet Sand
Strip My Mind
I Could Die For You
Subway To Venus
Breaking The Girl

Thats on One Hot Minute, right? I was referring to Californication/By The Way, haven't heard the new one.

One Hot Minutes good in places, i like Warped, not so great in other places.

I think they're pretty cool. I don't have any of their cRAB but I have listened a lot to some of their songs like Californiacation. My frienRAB are in a band and they played it. It's a cool song and I don't think anyone can play it as good as TheRHCP. My frienRAB aren't bad at all, but TheRHCP are pretty good imo

I don't think that's a more accurate description though. They're not very punk sounding at all and "alternative" is such a catchall term that it's pretty much meaningless.

Edit: One other thing I want to add about them being considered funk-metal is you have to look at that description in the context of 1980s metal. Their music did have much more prominent basslines than contemporary metal, so in that sense I guess the funk-metal label makes more sense.

My favourite Red Hot Chili Peppers song is probably Breaking The Girl.

I do like the band but I wish they wouldn't stick to the same formula over and over again.
