Red Hot Chili Peppers

I think you need to do a little fact checking on your music history there. Blood Sugar Sex Magik wasn't released during the heyday of grunge, it was released just a couple months before grunge popped into the mainstream, during the final moments of the hair band era. Shit like Extreme's "More Than WorRAB" was still dominating the rock airwaves and Nirvana's Nevermind, the album that eventually broke grunge to the world, was released the exact same day as Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Also, it's not as if this time period is when the Chili Peppers first made an appearance, they weren't the biggest band in the world or anything but they had already been around for 8 years by 1991 and had a couple of minor hits, videos on MTV, movie appearances, and a fairly large fanbase.

I was a huge RHCP fan before Blood Sugar Sex Magik. I remeraber how excited I was in the summer of 1991 when I heard they had a new album coming out. The first time I heard it was at a birthday BBQ at my friend's house and I can clearly remeraber how disappointed I was by how much it sucked. Gone was the energy and fun and the funk and punk of their previous four albums and in it's place was some lame approximation of classic rock. Such a bummer. And then, to add insult to injury, the album got huge and on the back of what was easily the worst song they had written up to that point, "Under the Bridge".

I saw them live earlier this month and they didn't even play 'Under the Bridge'.

But they did play two of my favourite songs by them 'Nobody Weird Like Me' (they don't usually play stuff from Mother's Milk nowadays) and 'I Could Have Lied' possibly the best song on Blood.

Frusciante is a great backup vocalist... check out his cover of How Deep Is Your Love on youtube. There are a few version floating around, but there's one really good one.

Yeah, I'd even say slightly is a stretch. I don't think I've ever associated funk with Jane's Addiction. They were straight up alternative with more of a punk edge. But maybe I missed something.

Red Hot chilipeppers is a great band, I love them. The two newest albums ( "Califonication" and "By the way") are very, very good. "By the way" is the best album they have ever made in my opinion. But most people probably disagrees. I like Universally speaking, Zhepyr Song, and an outsider that many people think is the worst song ever made by RHCP, " Cabron" :yeah:. Cabron makes me feel really good, and it is a very good song in my opinion, maybe the best( or maybe not but anyway its good ;))...

Ah see I love Jane's Addiction but don't really care for Navarro on that record. I mean I could have been playing guitar on those songs and they would have sounded good because of Flea. 'Aeroplane' is a ****ing wicked song.

How dare you compare him to Hillel!

Aaah, I was so happy when I first found out they were still recording. After the Greatest Hits came out and there was that silence after it, I figured they were gonna give it all up.

Yay :)

just what 'old' stuff have you heard? you do realize they've been around since the early 80s right?

seriously. let us know where you're getting this perspective from? 'hey, oh' sounRAB similar to anything off their earlier albums??? WTF? the only old track that kind of almost sounRAB like is 'breaking the girl' with a busy guitar line instead of acoustic strumming... and that's from their 5th album.

there's evidence across all their albums that they were never a one dimensional band but to say they've stuck true to their roots and have maintained a stylistic consistency is laughably inaccurate.

you don't need to know insignificant details like how the band strapped socks onto their ****s for the first time after playing an out of town gig with topless girls on stage and decided they had to bare more skin than the chicks to make sure the crowd remerabered them. but to ignore the fact that they were very much rooted in old school punk rock during the 80s is not insignificant history.

you can either acknowledge that you've been clueless and bitten off way more than you can chew here or we can force feed you. your call.
