Here's another idea: listen to what I'm saying. I'm not denying their virtuosity as musicians. I'm saying that the music they've been writing in recent times has been bland, insipid, commercially-oriented pop rock. And it has. It's their creative skills I have an axe to grind with. Not their musical skills. The Chilis have been nothing worth mentioning since like 1991.

And Kiedis is an utterly appalling lyricist. I don't think anybody could honestly say otherwise. He's not even that good a singer.
 
funky monks is from '92 and flea was likely defending the inclusion of 3 ballaRAB to their last album at the time. which is arguably the last really good album they put out to a big section of their fans (i've run into more than a few who see BSSM as their first bad album too).

if you want to play the 'quotes are timeless' game then there's interview footage of the band in the mid 80s at a european festival where they say their entire goal is to make "the nastiest / dirtiest music ever recorded". not exactly a phrase i'd use to describe much of anything post BSSM.

the albums got a cleaner crisper sound over the years because they got better recording budgets for each subsequent album.
 
LOL. My opinion of it has nothing to do with the production or being a purist and it's not like it was their first album with good production anyway. It's as simple as this: I loved their first four albums and thought all the fun and punkiness that I loved the Chili Peppers for were basically absent from BSSM. I can clearly remeraber the first time I listened to that album, when it very first came out, and how disappointed I was by it. I really wanted to like it but I didn't.
 
i like them, but i don't have any of their CD's. so I only know the songs on the radio......favorites are probably californiacation (sp?) and soul to squeeze (i think that's what it's called)

Not to mention the moRAB on this site are not payed at all so they could ban anyone at anytime they wanted too, and not have to worry about getting a pay cut or anything. So watch your ass.
