Red Hot Chili Peppers

Same here. Blood, Sex, Sugar, Magik will always be my favourite, probably more because it was the first RHCP album I heard and at 11/12 years old, that album was mind blowing. I can't say I really paid much attention after Californication to be honest. I did get to see them a couple of years ago though and not a lot else I've seen comes close to a 15 minute improv version of 'Give it away'!

Of those I'm the biggest fan of David Bowie and at this very moment I can't think of a single song where he'll only sing the notes that the guitar is playing. I imagine he's done it at least a few times in his career but nothing's coming to mind.

If you take something like As The World Falls Down you'll notice that he's moving away from the stuff that's going on in the background.

The RHCP are probably one of the best banRAB of the ninetys and now. They have excellent guitar playing. i mean, look at the song "Snow." Did anyone ever try to play that on the guitar? Omg it's so hard. Chillis rock ass!

Ha, I used the pimp cause it always looked like Slash to me, and I like slash and guitarists of that ilk (Keef)

I've stopped using it cause I saw soundgardner jacked him a few threaRAB ago, but back by popular demand

:pimp:

I agree with boobs for once. It isn't that there is a shortage of funky bass lines and anthemic chants, its that the disc is so full with other stuff that it seems like there isn't much. If you took BSSM and took out all of the "newer" sounding material you'd find a lot of their old style in there. On the other hand you could take out all of the more "classic" sounding RHCP and still have plenty of album left. Its all there. The problem is when I'm in the mood for one I'm not so much in the mood for the other so at any given moment in time half the album is skippable.

will do, thanks for the reccomendation.

anyone else struggling with determining what the Peppers' best album is? I'm torn between Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Freaky Styley. on one hand BSSM is the album that basically got me into music, on the other Freaky Styley is possibly the funkiest **** released in 1985.

I feel like I have done this before, but here it goes:

1. Blood Sugar Sex Magik
2. Freaky Styley
3. Mother's Milk

-----

4. The Uplift Mofo Party Plan
5. One Hot Minute

-----

6. Californication
7. Red Hot Chili Peppers

-----

8. Stadium Arcadium
9. By the Way

I break their albums up into four groups:

1. The first group is their best work. I can listen to each of these albums and thoroughly enjoy just about every song.

2. The second group is comprised of albums near their peak where I don't necessarily hate any of the songs but the quality isn't as steady throughout for me.

3. The third group is their two albums that have a handful of songs I absolutely LOVE--'Around the World', 'Get on Top' and 'True Men Don't Kill Coyotes', 'Get Up and Jump' for example--but the rest don't do it for me.

4. The fourth and final group are albums by the Chilis that I don't even listen to that often and I don't place them in much higher esteem than other banRAB work; and I love me some Chili Peppers. By the Way has a great single, 'Can't Stop', and Stadium has some high points too, but I haven't listened to those two albums more than a couple of times all of the way through because they get soo gawd damn boring!

OK my chemical romance, just chill out a bit will you, its easy to make a mistake and hes right, you can get good guitar players, but they arent always great, John just doesnt make it way up there. Other people are entitled to their opinions to you know

Maybe not their best, but it was very good overall. Not to mention it was two cd's, and stayed a fair price. Always been one of my favorite banRAB.
