Red Hot Chili Peppers

I like Stadium Arcadium, but I can't help but feel that it sounRAB a bit contrived in parts. But they'll never again reach the greatness of BSSM IMO - it's a very high target to aim for if they were to try. Good mixture of songs though - I just wish people wouldn't judge by singles.

not gonna quote everything i just saw but...

ignoring Mother's Milk and the Uplift Mofo Party Plan... SHAME!

Jane's Addiction being funky - yeah, not really. i think a lot of people automatically associate funk with staccato guitar playing. yes, Navarro did strum in both directions and did more than chug riRAB but like he said in interviews during his time with the peppers, he could 'play' funk, but he was not a 'funky' guitarist. much in the same way that it's obvious from old school tracks that Frusciante could play metal no one called him a metal guitarist.

in short Jane's Addiction was to the Red Hot Chili Peppers what Led Zeppelin was to the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

also Eric Avery's solo career trumps all the corabined solo careers of all the associated band merabers put together to my ears.

Where can i hear these subliminals? I want proof...
It seems to me that something as big as the accusations you've made would be common fact to a lot of people, and i've never heard them before

I still stand by my previous comment on the Chillies...
every album is packed with great songs.....
just can't wait to see what they will come up with next....
still, everytime I watch Dave Navarro on his stupid reality wedding show, I think of when he was in that band and when it was great, you know, the Aeroplane era?....Jane's Addiction is ok, but that was what was his legacy was laid on......

its kind of hard to be revolutional when you've already revolutionized your own type of music.. I agree they are still amazingly awesome for such an old band...

i'm aboslutely loving dani california, finally they're returning to their funkadellic roots, and the chorus rocks my socks off, not to mention the incredibly catchy guitar riff in the end....

hopefully this album will be half as good as that song, lord knows that harmonious bullshit they tried to pull with their last album sucked ass..

Eh, well, as for BSSM I love nearly every song--I don't care for 'Breaking the Girl' and 'They're Red Hot' but the latter is only like a minute long and the last track so I don't really care. Everything else has either a funky guitar riff or thumpin' bass line that get me movin'. I do think they take that album too seriously and it makes me miss the playfulness of earlier albums, but the musicianship is soo excellent.

I was watching this youtube video last night and though I should share it:

One quote by Flea at the end sticks out to me: "We play **** that is too funked out to get on white radio and too rocked out to get on black radio."

If you've read Scar Tissue you might remeraber Flea's first concern when they went looking for a new record label was (paraphrasing) "who can get us the most radio play?"

Personally, their older stuff was much better than their newer stuff. Their newer stuff is so over-rated and the band have become over-rated too IMO.
I love their older stuff, it's amazing..I love most of the songs from Californication too..awesome..did anyone go to see them live last year in the UK?

You should lose all respect for Johnny Cash too then, ever heard cocaine blues? Compare to in search of little sadie by Bob Dylan.

I don't think anyone here is making the case that Dave Navarro was a funky guitarist. What I'm saying is that the rhythm section of Jane's Addiction is why they are associated with funk metal.

Iv have constantly stuck up for Californication, By The Way, and BSSM in this thread. The problem is whenever ever you do, 10 people reply "no they suck stupid" with no explanation or anything.
