Will this ever happen?

Its apparently been in the Pipeline for 5 Years now, so what the hell is going on?

Apparenty, also, according to Yahoo! its on a

They have been saything this for 5 years, and it still looks like it hasn't even started pre-production yet.

I think it's an insanely stupid idea to do a film. They should just make a 9th series. All this crying over not being able to get the funding for a film. I mean, it's obvious why, but they can't see it: It's a TV show that WILL NOT TRANSFER WELL TO A MOVIE!

People are used to the wobbly sets and the live audience, this is why series 7 had such negative reviews from the fans, a filmic look that a movie version is sure to include, plus no laughter. Red Dwarf will NOT work as a drama type programme with the odd comedy moment like S7 was. It's a comedy show, so stop treating it as if it was otherwise. Make a series 9, which aparently the BBC have been asking for since 1999, and stop thinking that Red Dwarf could be the new Star Trek... it won't!

Paddy :D

What rubbish. Red Dwarf VII didn't work because it was mostly very weak, it had nothing to do with how it was filmed. Red Dwarf VIII was far worse and that was filmed in the conventional fashion.

Red Dwarf would have transferred extremely well into a movie. Unfortunately, since the Grant Naylor writing partnership broke up, the franchise has been pretty ropey.

I thought season VIII was an improvement over VII.........well I laughed more anyway.

Maybe 2-6 years ago the movie was a neat idea, not now.
This is the perfect window to do season IX, Doctor who back, hyperdrive and the general trend of sci-fi/fantasy shows. Now the reality tv show bubble has burst, might as well ride this wave....

It would be a lot easier to do a film after IX anyway.

I served Danny John-Jules aka Cat about 3-4 months ago he was chilling out and sat inside a trolley, didnt even recongnize the bloke.

He looked 60, if he shaved/baby lotioned it id say in his 40s ;)

But id expect Rimmer/Lister would look about 50 proberly cos they are in real life! so I think the Red dwarf movie will never happen.

Just took too long and no one wanted to make a start having said that Id bet they would jump into it if given the green light.

When they were on top of there game was the time to do it all...

I think they should just accept now that it isn't going to happen. Reports say that BBC2 are more than willing for them to make a series 9. It's better to see them (hopefully) go out with a bang now and finish the story properly rather than pinning their hopes on something that will likely never happen.

I for one will be very sad if the cliff hanger for series 8 is never concluded

why would they want that star trek is rubbish (as is star wars) and red dwarf is great i would like series 9, but they look dead set on making a movie

Well The Cat is 46ish, few years out but yeah in the flesh he looked like an old man who just had a 10 minute sleep on a park bench, his hair was not exactly combed either and I might as well have given him a whiskey bottle.....

Listers in his early 40s, Rimmers 46ish.

These guys arent exactly in there 20s or early 30s when they started off ;)

Krytens an acception since hes under a mask.

As much as id like to see the film, I dont see it happening....

I agree. The Beeb should throw a fair bit of cash at the production, maybe even film a few hour long specials culminating in a Christmas send-off. The dvd sales of these alone would be massive, maybe (though I don't approve of the tactic) they could even release them to dvd before showing them on tv.

i watched hyperdrive last night for the first time, take red dwarf, take all the funny bits out of red dwarf and you get hyperdrive, the money spent on producing that show should have been put into reviving red dwarf!

Is Chris Barrie still fat? He was huge in VIII...

Lister is in Corrie, so anyone who hasnt seen him, try tuning into itv1.

Llewelynn is doing Scrapheap Challenge... I think.

Danny is floating about... lol

If only Red Dwarf had had the money and technology Hyperdrive has. The look of the show is slick even if the comedy isn't all that. I don't mind the show though, it's the nearest thing to new Dwarf I'll get. :(

And Chris Barrie is a team captain in new motoring show "PetrolheaRAB" starting next week, so you can see what shape he's currently in! He buffed up a great deal whilst doing the Tomb Raider sequel, but may have filled out again by now!

I must be one of the few people who thought Red Dwarf's cheapness and poor quality helped make the show what it was. Without the fancy computer graphics and lavish sets that had to make the show good with top writting and funny gags.

red dwarf was never about the special effects, the tackiness just added to the surreal atmosphere, it was a sitcom RAB.

for what its worth im not sure if i'd want another red dwarf, if they did i'd hope they'd take chloe annette out and put rimmer back in.
