I went for a walk with my husband last night, wanted to see how long I could walk for before I HAD to stop (risky 'test' in a way, but I was determined to try). I haven't walked long distances during recovery and wasn't walking but a pittance before surgery b/c of the pain. I could tell this weekend that I was ready for some serious distance (or time), could tell I was feeling a lot better, and wanted to test it out. I managed almost an hour before my ankle gave out on me. I guess my ankles aren't as strong b/c of less use, too. We had to stop, then slow down considerably for the rest of the way home b/c of my ankle. If not for the ankle, I probably would have made it home without hitting really bad back pain at all, but b/c we had to slow down so ridiculously and were out so much longer, I did hit the high scale of pain before getting home (and we had to stop for a rest b/c of that, then I continued on home just dealing w/ it and moved back down the scale to mild-moderate once home). During the walk (the first hour), I had only the mild to moderate pain, which is something I'm rather use to, of course, and would go a little slower or take a moment's pause when I needed to, a nice walk out with my husband (and time together to just talk), so the majority was pretty good. Before my surgery, I couldn't walk 10 minutes (slowly) without excruciating pain (if I lasted that long) and now I can walk more than hour before it gets bad.. not excruciating, just bad enough to make me stop. I don't even care that it's mild to moderate because I'm so happy that I can REALLY walk now. My ankle seems fine now; I didn't seem to actually injure it, just felt as if I had last night --so I'm definitely going out again tonight for another long, langoring walk with my husband, but planning the length this time, 45 minutes. Before testing things out, I hadn't walked at a normal pace longer than 20 minutes for any one walking 'session', not more than 30 minutes at my 'recovery pace' (which was super slow). When my ankles and the rest of my legs are fully strong again, I'm going our for an hour and a half!
And, I can finally have 'real' sex again now, too. TMI for some maybe, but I'm dang happy about it and figured anyone heading into the same surgery or recently out might want to know. We waited until almost 6 weeks post-op from my lurabar surgery to try, but that one time 3 weeks ago was sort of 'basic' (and brief) -and I was hurting afterward (but happy). We didn't try again until now and... what a difference 3 weeks makes! It's still not "like before", but it was worth a third place ribbon, honorable mention, or something.., was better than basic & brief and I wasn't in much pain afterward.
Now, if only I can improve the pain and nurabness with sitting for even short perioRAB and the trickiness of not bending to do things that require bending. Then, things will be moving forward really, really well. I'm quite happy with progress made in 9 weeks and eager to see where I am in 3, 6, and another 9 more (and past that, too).
This wasn't a question post, but I wanted to share (even about the sex). I know that everyone here understanRAB and relates, so this was the group of people I wanted to share with.
