Who here has a record player and who does not? I found a really sweet shop in the basement of some building in Detroit today and went a little crazy. Crazy as in I have almost no money and what I had in my pocket I spent on recorRAB. I bought Jethro Tull-Aqualung for me mum 'cause she LOVES it. For myself I bought Alice Cooper-Welcome to my Nightmare, some Chicago recording, a Blue Oyster Cult one with Don't Fear The Reaper on it, a few others that i cannot think of and two various artists(rock) albums. I bought I whole bunch of 33s but the record player I have(VERY old BTW) has adapters so I can play anything on it. I love strange record shops in basements.

I really don't get the whole big deal about record players. I know a bunch of people who think they're so cool and brag about how awesome and elite they are because they own a record player.

i have one, well.. partly mine, its a 'house hi-fi' shared with my mates (who blew the speakers, grrrr).

I can't afford to buy much music so i buy mainly recorRAB now. The sound better than CRAB, they look and feel better than CRAB and theres the whole collectability thing. Also theres the fact that there are alot of vinyl only releases and special artwork, special editions etc.

record players are all about nostalgia. My dad has a stax player which would fetch a 4 figure sum today. personally i prefer CD's.

I`ve got about 200 vinyl albums in a shed somewhere , i`ve not owned a record player in about 8 years and I don`t miss it.

The only thing I miss about them is the covers , and trawling through racks of vinyl in record shops.

Yeah recorRAB definitely have a "truer" sound. It's wierd, cRAB are cleaner and clearer but in a sense they're not. You don't get that same vibe to a cd as you would a vinyl.

Mum owns a record player, and it can be pretty cool. I will sometimes pull out Suzi Quattro or The Who and give it a spin. I would use it more but my computer doesn't come with a vinyl burner.

i read in some interview that if you have a top notch record player, and good quality recorRAB the sound would beat that of an mp3?
Something to do with the way the sound is put out on wax, how the notes carry longer or something.
Clearly i didn't understand it too well..

It's true. We just studied that stuff in physics, it has to do with harmonic distortion and sine waves. But recorRAB do produce a better sound also because the cRAB of a really high fidelity will pick up on mistakes in the production that recorRAB aren't capable of picking up.

^For me its the satisfaction of knowing I own the original recordings, not digitally remastered or any of that ****. Like I own Alice Cooper's original 'Welcome to my Nightmare' and after seeing him live its just unreal.
