Record of Lodoss War and Slayers

Judging by the fact that they are now out-of-print, have CMP gone out of business and dropped the titles? Or do they still own the rights and simply have financial problems and ergo cannot release the stuff?

Central Park Media is still in business, they're just struggling right now, so they're in a Geneon situation, Record of Lodoss War has been out of print for a while now, and as of 2005, FUNimation now owns the rights to Slayers, and has re-released the first three seasons and has picked up the new episodes

From what I understand they have financial trouble but are still in a position to manage stuff they've licensed, rather like Geneon. They were able to get Now and Then, Here and There on Ani-Monday, for example. The company is just far too small to actually produce DVD's on its own. So as an active company CPM is practically dead, but it's not totally gone.

Slayers is back in print thanks to FUNimation. They definitely have distribution rights, since Funi is the one streaming it on various video services. They also got Slayers Revolution, so the property seems to pretty be theirs now.

Lord, now that the topic's come up, I really wish Lodoss War would get salvaged. Certainly the OVA.

Not to mention Central Park Media's original boxsets were rushed products and were in poor quality, so FUNimation's DVD's were a huge improvement

I hear that. If you really care, FWIW, it's possible to get the most recent R1 release (w/ the red cover) used or like-new. You may have to pay slightly more than MSRP to pull it off, but it's possible.

That's why I am holding out hope for RoLW to be released again. I don't want to pay that much for it if it's not new. Besides, my original VHS copies are still in very good shape. So, for now I can wait. The problem is I have a feeling it will be a LONG wait.

I thought that Genon were out of business? The anime market in the U.S. must be hurting worse than I thought.

I suppose that it's too much to hope that they'll pick up Lodoss?

They go for pretty high prices where I've looked.

Huh. That's even more odd.

You can find it for about $40 if you're patient. Sometimes it's on eBay, and sometimes there's a seller on Amazon who isn't charging twice the price.
