i like marian keyes a lot. also liked sophie kinsella since high school. i like a mixture of career, friendship, and romantic conflict.
 
hmm. i'm not so sure my suggestions fall into the "career" category, but i enjoyed Perfect Chemistry and the Evernight Series for these reasons. Instead of career, it's school.

All Sarah Dessen books fall into that category, and tons of Meg Cabot books do as well. I'd suggest you check out their websites, kind of get some info on their books and pick what you'd like to read.
