Recommend some Filmation series to me

Someone at the DVD forum mentioned BCI Eclipse's Filmation DVDs, and I've been taking a look at them and am interesting in supporting them (especially with all those goodie extras packaged into such cheaply priced sets).

I'm familiar with Filmation of course, and have watched a number of their shows when I was a kid. However, I remember very little about the actual entertainment value, writing, etc. I have a pretty good idea that they're not exactly Batman The Animated Series, but I'm still game depending on the camp value.

Anyone here able to recommend some of their "good" shows on DVD?

I'd recommend the original He-Man and She-Ra sets. They don't have very high production values in terms of animation, but He-Man's worth it for the camp value and high episode count.

She-Ra, on the other hand, while suffering from the same recycled animation problem as He-Man, actually ends up having better storylines. Plus He-Man shows up almost every other episode.

I wouldn't, however, reccomend picking up Filmation's Ghostbuster's, which was just made to try to stick it to Sony's Real Ghostbusters.

I've never seen enough of Bravestarr to offer an opinion, however, maybe someone else could offer up something on that.

This topic might end up getting moved or mirrored on the Retro forum, since the time frame that forum covers was really the heyday of Filmation.

It's not from BCI, but I have a soft spot for their Star Trek series, which I reviewed for Toon Zone here, and also used the show to highlight the many ways that Filmation cheated to cut costs. The headline is "Trek in all the ways that matter," and I go into more detail in the review so I won't repeat myself here. If you're not a Trek fan, though, then this is probably almost certainly NOT what you want, since...well, since it's Trek in all the ways that matter :).

Bravestarr is probably the best-animated filmation series (especially the movie) and the writings pretty good too (characters actually DIED on the show). Fat Albert is pretty good too if you're in the mood for 70s nostalgia (despite being the preachiest cartoon EVER).

Well, being a fan of FGB, I would recommend it just try not to take it seriously and you might enjoy it. Also it was not just made to "stick it" to the so called "Real" Ghostbusters.

Leaping Larry Jojo, you should get the He-Man boxsets because they have a lot of great extras on them.

The best series Filmation ever did was Star Trek: The Animated Series. Not so much for the quality of animation, but for the storylines and the fact that they reunited most of the original cast.
