I love Deathwatch, but everyone I've shown it to has been completely unimpressed. And no one ever agrees with my theory that...
... They're already dead when they get to the trench and it's like purgatory, with Jamie Bell's character being the only one that 'passes the test'.
Maybe that's because I'm talking bollocks, but I like to think it's pretty obvious and my frienRAB are just fools who don't get it - it's much more palatable.
If you liked Kill Bill then you'll probably like Lady Snowblood. It's Japanese, made in the 70s and, like someone on IMDB says, Tarantino did lift a number of images, a few characters, countless plot devices, and one memorable song from this film. The sequel - Love Song Of Vengeance - isn't as good, but still worth watching too.
Also, I'm not sure these would really qualify as unknown, but Hard Candy and Pedro Almodovar's Bad Education are also damn good. Bad Education's worth it just to ogle Gael Garcia Bernal!
Wrong Death Watch. The one I mean stars Harvey Keitel and Romy Schneider and was made about 1979-80. To say more might spoil it. A rare movie indeed, mainly because of legal wrangles which prevented its being shown for many years.
Well worth seeking out.
