I like Eric Rohmer. French films which are the opposite of Hollywood ........ The Green Ray regularly turns up on film 4.

Manhunter was mentioned above, I'd 2nd that. A VERY good hannibal lecter film BEFORE anthony hopkins, it's much more about style than plot, very watchable.

I also recommend 'The Prestige'

I watched it on Sky Box Office one morning and ended up watching it a further 2 times that day.

I don't think a movie has ever had that effect on me before.
