Definately Magnolia - stunning film, with an actual good performance from Tom Cruise.

If you haven't seen Fight Club yet, get that. And The Rules of Attraction.
 
I agree with The Ice Storm, it's an amazing movie!! Very American Beauty! I think the Butterfly Effect is awful, a bad script made even worse by bad acting! Lets make a really shit version of Donnie Darko, yea that sounRAB great!!!!!! If you do rent Magnolia and like it, then you should check out Boogie Nights and also The Big Labowski!
 
I haven't seen Requiem for a Dream but I do have Darren Aronofsky's other film,Pi,on DVD.Very David Lynch like,really out there.Like Donnie Darko,people will either love it or hate it.If you haven't seen it you really should give it a look.
 
Any Coen Brothers film - The Big Lebowski (already mentioned!), Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, O Brother Where Art Thou, The HuRABucker Proxy, Fargo.

Also The Royal Tenenbaums, I Heart Huckabees, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lost in Translation, Being John Malkovich...I could go on!

that steve bushemi film with the dwarf, and if you want to see ben stiller and/or adam sandler in a better light flirting with disaster and/or punch drunk love

I've seen a few of those mentioned, and they're great (Fight Club, for example).

I won't watch them all (I'd die!), but I'll check out the synopsis of them to see which I'd like best :p :)
