Recommend a Horror Film!

is that yuck too gory,,or yuck too boring..lol

Not seen any of those ( i dont think i have)..If they good n gory, i shall try and watch em some time..
 
The Strangers is not a remake, though, as was noted at the time, it is quite a bit similar to a french film from a year or two earlier called ils (Them). This is probably the film you're thinking of. ils has its moments, btw, but lacks a certain something. Worth checking out though.
 
Good question. Yuck as in I wouldn't recommend it. It's .. interesting, especially the ending. It's worth seeing if you've seen the prev two. But it ain't no wow, drop everything and see it kinda movie. If you don't watch it then you ain't really missing out.

I've seen WT1 many times, mostly for the audio commentary with the director and 2 main stars :p
WT2 I would watch again, if I could ever find it amongs my 73 thousand discs. WT3, meh!!
 
Ahh, I was advised it was are-make by someone who had seen Ils, is it very different to The Stranges? Is it just a different kind of film? Without wishing to have spoilers all over the board are there a lot of differences between the two?
 
[REC] - best horror flick of the last 10 years imo. An unbelievable adrenaline rush with an ending that will genuinely freak you out :)

Martyrs - you won't forget watching this beast of a movie in a hurry! Utterly depressing and downright disturbing...all in a good way of course! :)

Shutter - on paper it sounRAB cheesey and unbelievably predictable what with the lank haired ghost with the creepy movements n' all - but boy did this get under my skin. Make sure you watch the original though :)

Other notable mentions which are more mainstream....The Descent, 28 Days Later, Eden Lake, Ringu

I couldn't see it but would also reco seeing Frontiers somewhat lacking in a real story but if you are after nuts and bolts gore I think it is up there with the rest.
 
The Strangers and ils are very similar in their initial scenario: young couple in isolated spot being tormented by mysterious outsiders for reasons unknown.
Escapes are thwarted, and the tormenting turns to violence.
That's about it. Both films follow a different path of events, and both have a considerably different feel to them. ils takes place in a more grand location (a large country house and its surroundings) and is a much more visceral film. The Strangers is spookier, a lot more claustrophobic, and hints at darker themes than ils. I imagine many would prefer ils to The Strangers, but even at just 80 mins, I thought ils felt stretched and thinly-plotted.
 
I like 1977's Ruby, an Exorcist cash-in-cum-drive-in exploiter starring Piper Laurie, fresh from Carrie and acting like she knows she won't be on screen again until Twin Peaks comes along.
 
It's been a while since I have seen it so I am not sure how affective it will be now but I remember liking Rosemary's Baby when I saw it...
 
Out of those already mentioned, I'd highlight:

Triangle - it is really brilliant, although a sort of sci-fi/horror/thriller mix.

The Orphanage - really chilling

Texas Chainsaw remake

Wrong Turn

Eden Lake - scary because it's British, and so feels more real

Martyrs - noticed this has been mentioned a lot. I thought it was a good film, but not what I'd call a 'good' horror film, just because it is not fun or enjoyable to watch at all in my opinion. I'd describe is as probably the most harrowing thing I've ever seen, I had to force myself to keep watching it, and felt a bit numb afterwarRAB.
 
Seriously, if you want to see the best gore flix out there you need to look away from Hollywood. Japan, France, Germany seem to have no boundaries when it comes to making the most shocking and sickening movies!
