Receiving calls from a "dead" phone

My friend's son passed away last week. Calls are being received from his phone to another person. His phone's battery is dead. When she answers, there is static on the line, and when she asks questions, "he" taps the answers back. Others have been witness to these calls, and it the number is definintely is. Even the Verizon employees have seen this, when the phone was taken to them. All claim it is impossible. Is there any way that someone could be playing a very cruel joke, and simulating his telphone number by any chance? That is the only solution I can think of. Someone mentioned a number could be simulated with the Verizon G-phone. Any help would be appreciated.:sad:
 
You can "spoof" someone else's phone number in a variety of different ways. It sound like someone is being an @$$ and playing a sick twisted prank on your friend. You can also put your number on a national DO NOT SPOOF registry. Just Google "Phone Number Spoofing" and you will get more information than you can handle.
 
Thank you, I see it is very possible. What kind of sick person would do such a thing. It was going on at the funeral, and repast and has continued since. I wonder if there is any way to track down the culprit. Any ideas?

Unfortunately unless they are threatening harm there is nothing you can do to "trace" or track down who it is. The only way to ever figure out who it is would be to go to the law. That's a slow and painful process that almost never ends up going anywhere. I know that a few carriers are now willing to trace calls from unknown or private numbers without a court order for a small fee but I doubt this will help you in your situation.

I guess you really only have three options:

1) Change your phone number :sad:

2) Ignore it, don
 
If anyone has access to her phone, anyone can enter their own number and enter her son's name on there and save it, that way when the phone rings the name that was enter will appear, has she viewed the actual number that's saved under her son's name on the phone that's receiving these calls?
