We've all seen these polling results illustrating how the Dems are going to stay in power over the cum guzzling Republicans. There is an 87% chance of the Democrats keeping their majority after the November elections and there isn't a damn thing any conservative can do about it.
But what you may be asking yourself is "why?" Why are Americans still so overwhelming in their support for anyone but the GOP? Perhaps the answer can be found in some recent conservative failures:
1. Rand Paul's racist comments don't jive with the majority of Americans. As the new face of the GOP, good ole Rand is nothing but trouble for any Republican hoping to capture a senate seat. Guess people don't like discrimination after all?
2. Allowing BP to ruin the Gulf. Bush-era regulators were lax in their enforcement, and this is the result. Ruined marshland, dead wildlife, polluted oceans; oil washing up on beaches and lowering home values; fisherman going out of business as they no longer have any fish to catch. What's more inflammatory is that conservatives have tried to somehow pass the blame off onto President Obama, the motive for which is wholly transparent to anyone with their thinking caps on.
3. Opposing the Healthcare Reform Bill. The majority of Americans want healthcare reform; this has been shown time and time again by poll after poll. The GOP really should learn to pick their battles better.
4. Opposing the Financial Reform Bill. Perhaps the biggest blunder in a series of conservative blunders is supporting the very firms that led to the financial collapse. With the taste of 2008 still fresh in most people's mouths, opposing financial reform is up there with opposing the Civil Rights Act in terms of stupidity.
5. Allowing polarizing figures to dominate the GOP. Sarah Palin, Rand Paul, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and others have become pivotal in the Republican Party's downfall. Sure, they secure a small base of small-minded idiots, but moderate and independent voters want nothing to do with people like that, and hence the GOP. The same can be said about the "purity tests," which was a brain-dead decision at best if the goal is to win elections.
6. And finally - The Tea Party. Allowing the Tea Party to gain so much traction on the GOP's base is critically injuring the Republican image. The ignorance and hate coming from this group of people has effectively shattered the GOP into factions. Moderate Americans see the Tea Party for what it is, and this is evidently harming Republican voter enthusiasm.
So there you have it - the most likely reasoning for why the Democrats have an 87% chance to keep their majority after November 2010. There is undoubtably more, but i wanted to share the most lulzy and items with you. Thanks for reading!
