(REC)/Quarantine

Saw 'Quarantine' last night and thought it was ...okay. Maybe I'd have enjoyed it more if I hadn't already seen [REC].

Somehow it doesn't quite capture the tension of the situation to the same extent as [REC] even though it's virtually an exact remake.

[REC] 8/10
Quarantine 5/10

Doh!!! Just the standard 2 discer from Play. Had it on order for ages.

I can't believe theres a sequel on it's way, :D if it's anything like the first film then I'll be a happy bunny.

I watched [Rec] recently and I didn't find it in the least bit frightening. After reading the reviews I was expecting a real treat and was disappointed. Only the last 5 minutes were slightly creepy, but that was it.

The lead actress was going way over the top with the hysterics right from the beginning, I just wanted her to shut up. The whole thing was a poor cross between the Blair Witch project and every zombie film ever made. I honestly don't know how people could think this film was scary!

I agree, i really don't get what all the fuss is about, i often wonder if we are watching the same movie, it was real predictable and not in the slightest bit scary, what do people actually find soo amazing abot this film.

I didn't like Blair Witch because it was primarily about American youths bickering with each other. [REC] was a lot better.

The religious aspect worked for me:
I took it as just being the Priest's room. The original girl had been suspected of demonic possession, and also suspected as having a medical problem, and the priest's notes shifted between the two. I don't think it claimed the cause really was religious; the bulk of the film had it as a contagious infection, albeit one that could cross species to a dog. I could believe the church would treat is as religious, though.

I'm not sure what a sequel should be about. Is the essence of [REC] the camera-work, or the story? I would quite like to lean what happened at the
vet's
, for example, but I don't see much reason for it to have a similar film-crew setup. It's not like Cloverfield where you'd expect multiple accounts of the same event.

I've not seen Quarantine. I just watched the trailer, and thought the actress wasn't as good. Also, I hated that she slid down the pole. It's one of the little touches that the original gets right.

I bought the dvd of Quarantine yesterday, and I thought it was really good. It's better paced than Rec (which is a bit slow in parts), and has a lot more gore/violence. The 'Medeiros Girl' climax is better in Rec though.

Me too, try to find the nicest editions of the dvd, unless it's only avaliable from somewhere I'm not 100% happy ordering on.

I watched REC on DVD last night and thought it was pretty good. However, the shock scene near the end when
the camera is panning around the loft through the hatch and is attacked by the girl
was spoiled completely by being the scene that's used in the animated menu at the beginning of the DVD. Why do DVD designers do that? It really spoiled the film.

So which horror films do you actually find scary then?

I enjoyed [REC]! it was never boring unlike the usual fare served for the multiplex audiences of today!

personally, I never understood the fascination of blu ray. I've heard the sales schpeil about bigger discs-better picture blah, blah, blah. Do blu ray's even have special features?

Ooo don't, you will get them all in here :p

They do have special features yes. I would hope so! amount of space compared to DVD for stuff.
