I've been rewatching the show lately. It's crazy good. Kinda flat at the beginning, but that was due to the crushing weight of ABC BS'nP (which was mocked several times on the show itself).
Back when it was new and Season 1 was all there was, I just liked to look at it. I watched it for the sake of having a computer-graphics show every week, back when CGI was rare and fascinating.
But even now, when the graphics could be easily replicated on a PS2, it still looks amazing. The history of CGI over the past two decades has been "more realism, more realism." ReBoot goes the opposite direction and it's infinitely more interesting for it. They used the "inside a computer" excuse to do all sorts of wild things. Metallic hair! Glowing orange static hair! Box bodies! Whatever!
And I still love all the crazy dizzying camera tricks. They could do things no other show at the time was capable of, and they darn well knew it. Facial expressions could have more subtlety and tense situations could be rendered more scarily. I still look away when Megabyte opens his mouth wide in "Infected" because that just looked freaky (and it was the only time he did it too).
Each season was better than the last (except for Season 4). I didn't even know there was a Season 3 until after the turn of the millennium and I had to wait even longer to see it, but the overarcing epic they concocted was amazing. This is one of the animation hallmarks of the 90's, and the best thing to ever come out of Canada. Period.
