Rebirth of the Rebellion - Code Geass R2 Talkback (SPOILERS)

Should make for an interesting contrast with the Black Knights' ideology, at least. If Ougi's little speech at the rally is any indication, the Knights officially consider Japan's independence to be only the first step towarRAB freedom for the world. Whether that actually holRAB up remains to be seen.

Unless the knight isn't so loyal anymore after losing his position.

Anyway, I don't know that Milly is actually in cahoots with Suzaku - unless I missed something. All I saw was their conversation right before the cat steals Euphemia's pen, which contained three main details:

1) Karen is a Black Knight, and is probably at the Chinese consulate.

2) Nina seems to be doing well working for Lloyd.

3) Lloyd has the approximate sex drive of a socket wrench, as evidenced by his lack of attention to the engagement with Milly.

Supposedly, all that was wiped from the Ashford crew was their memories of Nunally and any clues that Lelouch was Zero. The information given here doesn't include anything like that, so there doesn't seem to be any definitive evidence that Milly is in on this conspiracy (plus there's the question of why she would do so in the first place, and the fact that Viletta and Rolo don't seem to be working with her).

Hmm. It was a good episode. Certainly better than last time with Lelouch acting like a complete bastard and Suzaku dominating with ease. Not the equal of season 1's equivalent, but then again to me turn 23 of season 1 was one of the best episodes. It's been quite awhile in Code Geass since there was an outright duel of tactics and strategy, so seeing that return was very nice. They could have just as easily had a straightforward giant robot slugfest.

Typically, Nunally is being lied to and not knowing it. She learns that Lelouch and Suzaku have been lying to her but of course, naturally, doesn't consider that Schneizel might be lying about some things. Once again we have a long-held lie paying back the liars with a consequence much worse than what would've come from the truth. Not a necessary lie either, merely a lie of convenience. I've said it before, all the way back in the early part of the season. The ship sailed on protecting Nunally's innocence a long time ago.

The writers just hate Villetta. That must be it. The pregnancy is totally out of nowhere and does nothing except take her out of the ending, which I guess is just as well since she wasn't actually doing anything. And by the way, was it too much to ask for her to have a "you know, you elevens aren't so bad after all" moment? Apparently so.

Sayako is totally not getting with Jeremiah. I could be wrong, but respect doesn't make a shipping attempt.

I liked the battle. I'm glad it drove home the point that the Black Knights aren't pushovers. That which Lelouch built he had to face, so that was good. It needed more Kallen and the Guren, but I guess that's true of every episode.

Ougi's development is pretty meager--oh no, Zero is my fault! Well, okay. Basically true, but now you're out of the fight so you can't act on it. Meh. That said...I expected Kallen, but Tamaki was USEFUL? Maybe this show IS in the twilight zone.

The montage in the middle may be a sign that things are a bit rushed, perhaps. I don't know. But you know, I liked it and I adored the whole Lelouch/C.C. moment that preceded it--more on that later. Sometimes, unspoken communication just works. Not to mention that I rather like the song (what's the name of the track?), and I feel that as a collective piece it imposes regret upon the viewer. A battle is coming, it's unavoidable, and not everybody is coming back.

It's kind of eerie how Schneizel is evil but somehow doesn't sound evil. He always has this serene tone of voice, as if nothing bothers him. Clearly, it doesn't. Telling your blind crippled relative that her brother is evil and that your big scary borab didn't really kill anybody? Check. Gunning down Cornelia at the first sign of dissent? Check--yeah, she was wasted. Going nuclear to make himself the only military power on the block? Check. Unlike Charles though, he always sounRAB reasonable and unthreatening and in control. It's an uncompromising mask. Compared to Lelouch, it's not hard to see how someone without the viewer's knowledge would prefer to side with Schneizel instead. His mask is that of reason, whereas Lelouch seems to insist on making himself look like the bad guy.

Yes, Schneizel is the villain. However, to me Lelouch continues to be an arabiguous hero because he gives us reasons to both root for him and question the way that he does things. Again, if he had told UFN and the Black Knights what he suspected of Schneizel, things may not have gone this way. Deceiving them and trying to force them into accepting his ways just drove them away and directly into Schneizel's corner. The fault lies with Lelouch, not the Black Knights. Instead of trying to build trust he just tried to have it his way, and it cost him.

Likewise, while the Mt. Fuji tactic was brilliant, it's hard to overlook that he sacrificed his soldiers as pawns in the process. And then there's the hostage situation, which in the end didn't deter Schneizel from using the FREIJA and led Xing-Ke to give Schneizel command over the Black Knight forces.

At the same time, Lelouch also showed some real maturity. He has a goal in mind, whatever this "Zero Requiem" thing is supposed to mean. He understanRAB that Schneizel neeRAB to be defeated, even though he's gone about it in a very counterproductive way in my opinion.

Most importantly, in what is bar none the best scene of the episode, he openly acknowledges to C.C. that he can't put Nunally ahead of the entire world. Good for Suzaku for giving him some necessary perspective. He's no longer a lone revolutionary fighting for personal happiness, he's a ruler with responsibilites and he's fighting for the future. I don't believe that he will end up killing Nunally, but he was surely right to understand that he can't put everything aside for her. He's done that throughout the series in the past, often for the worse. He can't anymore.

Maybe this ending will yet jump the shark, but if you ask me this is a rather solid start. As I said, not spectacular, but good.

Random Curiosity is wrong.

Grade: B+

I'm late.

Anyways, I have to say this episode was handled very well, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Cornelia living doesn't anger/annoy me mainly because I was pretty confident that she would be alive. Guilford being a live is a bit eh, but it seems that he was atleast injured due to the borab.

While the ending of this episode is indeed spectacular, along with the Schneizel scenes, my favorite part had to be when Suzaku and Lelouch worked together to get rid of the FREIJA borabs. They really are quite a team, Lelouch's intelligence and Suzaku's corabat abilities together just can't compare to anything else.

C.C.xLelouch moment?

Heck yes. I really enjoyed seeing their playful banter and I am glad the shipping war can finally be put to rest. But I have to say, damn you Kallen, damn you. Way to ruin a moment. I am happy that C.C. was able to hold her own for a little bit, but I really couldn't stand how Kallen was talking to her, like she knows anything about C.C.. Well guess what Kallen, YOU CAN'T KILL AN IMMORTAL, WHAT NOW!?

I am, however interested in how this love interest will play out, Im not sure it'd be fun to be in love with an immortal. I still think in the end they both will be left immortal, I am not quite sure how, but I think that is how it will be played, or how I want it to be.

Now, to Schneizel.

He really is (was?) an arrogant bastard. I couldn't stand how he would talk down to Lelouch. I really liked how Lelouch had the chess piece with him, while he may never have been able to defeat Schneizel before, he did when it truly mattered. Geassing him was great, I am wondering how the OoTBKs will take this though, or if they will even realize it.

Lelouch vs Nunally? Suzaku vs Kallen

Hmm, this has the potential to be freaking awesome. I really do hope Lelouch survives though, Nunally can die for all I care. I am thinking neither Suzaku nor Kallen will die, but I do think Suzaku will come out on top. He not only has the 'Live' geass as an advantage, but I just believe him to be the better pilot. Kallen is a bit less tactical than he is, and I think that is what a battle with amazing Mechs comes down to.

Lastly, I am very sad knowing this show will be ending in just one week. It has had a lot of bumps and turns, but overall Code Geass has been amazing and more importantly, entertaining.

GWOtaku you seem to see things the way I do. I agree completely with you say about Lelouch.

A lot of fans get mad at anybody that doesn't see though Lelouch great acting and side with him, even though Lelouch is doing everything to drive people away. The majority of characters that have turned against Lelouch lately, they wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, Lelouch could have simply been honest, but instead Lelouch was like "yes I am an a-hole", he pushes so many people away.

A lot of people don't see things though other characters eyes, but only what they see on screen.

I see some protentional in Villeta's pregnancy, they probably won't show it on the series, but for manga short stories, I could imaginy in the future the kiRAB be a victom of prejitice because he or she is mixed, and him or her running home to his or her mother crying, and like any kid expecting their mother to confort this. Villeta have to confort her kid, but at the same thing has to be reminded of her past prejitice, and realise the crual irony she was just like the people that made her son or daughter cry.

I agree...it was a well made episode, but I was left feeling pretty down. Both Lelouch and Suzaku definitely got hit hard in spite of their intentions. I just hope they can recover from it. I'm hoping your predictions turn out true.

Kind of, though it should be said that GSD didn't invent the "Wings of Light" feature.

If it's just "frame by frame" fanservice, I could care less.

Though it might as well not be there, frankly.

Whether you like it or want to hate on it, the average viewer is almost never going to pause the video to look for that.

But well...average viewers usually don't make motivators in the first place.

I don't understand, perhaps I need to rewatch this episode...I thought Zero's point was simply that the Japanese nation is wherever its people choose to go. In effect saying "go ahead and lead area 11, but I'm leading Japan!"

This series just keeps getting better every week. Things have already gone to Hell, and so many people died...I was skeptical at first, but Nunnally really is gone. I'm surprised that Rolo died so soon too, and I take back [strike]my badmouthing about him[/strike] some of the bad things I said about him. As crazy as he was, Rolo really only had Lelouch's best interest in mind. And now, all of the Black Knights turned on Lelouch?! I didn't imagine that happening until the finale. Just...amazing stuff.

If this is accurate, C.C. has actually been without her immortality as of turn 15, giving Lelouch good reason to be worried about her.

That's from the official website, if I understand things right. Unless her immortality came back with her memory, but I'm not sure about that.

Gah, so many subtle placements in Geass. So cheeky a production crew such as this, they borabard us with borabastic fanservice sequences and grotesque moments of action and then slip all these things under our noses while we continue to gawk at what is transpiring onscreen.

Well, the thought was that Charles just grew into a corrupt person later after the marriage because of Geass or something. Oh well, par for the course as far as my ability to predict Geass goes.

It's one of those lines that raises my eyebrow because I've seen it in a few other shows "Foreign main cast meraber did something amazing because they have developed a true heart of a Japanese person!!". Like I said, it can be taken as a positive. But it's also quite easy to take it as a negative. The show is rather vocal on the fact that Britiannia's invasions rob countries of their national heritage and culture, so I'd hate to see "Lelouch is from Britannia but has become as awesome as he is because he's developed the heart of the Japanese!"
