Rebirth of the Rebellion - Code Geass R2 Talkback (SPOILERS)

I feel that Shirley brought out the best in Lelouch. This episode certainly showed that. Without her, he'd be as bad as Light. I guess you could argue that Nunnally is his real connection to humanity and its probably true. They've just had so little interaction between the two of them. Every cloud has a silver lining, I suppose. Hopefully we'll now see some more CC-Lelouch or Kallen-Lelouch development.

Overall this season was pretty terrible.

Opening up tons of plotlines that were not all concluded or even hinted to being concluded, focus on characters that really shouldn't get as much focus as they are in this series (ohgi vilietta omg stop wasting my time please writers thank you, this died imo with season 1). Overall this created very mixed feeling for me in the finale.

The ending itself, between Lelouch/Suzaku/Nunally I thought WAS well done. Everybody is cheering and happy and in reality the martyrdom and sadness that comes from Nunally realizing Lelouch's grand scheme is utterly heart-wreching. The writers and directors for this scene did a phenomenal job here.

And that's really the only phenomenal scene in the whole episode. Sad huh? >

I personally like the flag/syrabol. It could be viewed as piece with the white dove and all, but who knows. Everything in Geass is flaraboyant, why shouldn't a flag be the same way?

I also got a rapey rapey vibe from him.

Now wait, I'm not comfortable with it...a lot more people would be alive if LeLouch hadn't been shocked out of his original plan. The Geass cult could've been stopped without shooting everything in sight; LeLouch's true goal was V.V. all along. Also, though the scientists are debatable, the children just aren't military targets. A calm LeLouch definitely would've sent Jeremiah to capture them.

I'm of two minRAB on all of that. I halfway agree with you, but the other half tells me that the innocence of Ashford and Shirley and the brutality of the world LeLouch has entered of his own free will are a contrast that Geass is better for having.

I can't argue that Shirley was a strong character, but what you've said perhaps reinforces what I was saying about the theme of deception. LeLouch thought he could keep Nunally and his frienRAB perpetually trapped in this dream world and it blew up in his face. Hell, his relationship with Rolo is yet another false dream that he was all too happy to encourage for his benefit. We know now all to well how that worked out.

Is it some mad coincidence that this keeps happening? Or is Geass, through Shirley and all these other examples, repeatedly hammering home a message that it doesn't pay to stay stuck in that ridiculous fantasy world?

To me, it's as though Schwartzwald's most memorable line from Big O is being communicated in giant red neon letters burning in the night.
Wake up! Don't be afraid of knowledge!

Food for thought.

Heh. Production was well under way when Gundam 00 started so I won't say its a rip off, but it's really funny how the mech of that pink-haired Knight has a weapon so similar to the Gundam Virtue's gun. That's what I thought of right away when I saw it. Did anybody on the Geass staff slap their foreheaRAB when they saw that first 00 episode?

Hmmm, a few OP thoughts....

Who thinks V.V. works directly for the Emperor?

No Jeremiah in the opening...methinks "Orange-Kun" is really gone this time.

Looks like C.C. finally ditched the straight-jacket. I guess its a good idea to wear real clothes most of the time when you're filling in for Zero.

That little bit in the OP with Nunnally falling & fading away from LeLouch doesn't look too good.... If she's in Britannia's clutches, I really hope Suzaku is looking out for her.

Given the last shot, here's hoping we see some Chess like in season 1.

Right before that, the very end of the OP mirrors the last version of season 1's second OP, with Zero and his Black Knights behind him. Only this time, he seems to have a legion of followers much, MUCH larger in nuraber...

Maybe I'd feel a little better about them if they both didn't try to kill their best frienRAB.

Oh and Sasuke spending "quality-time" with Orochimaru...Not helping

You know what? I'm starting to realize why I love this show so intensely that I need to see the next episode. It's the end of the episode. I've finally realized that each episode enRAB in such a cliffhanging way that you are literally forced to watch the next one to figure out what happens.

I mean who enRAB an episode with a basic way of saying "I surrender?" We all know that Zero has some sort of plan up his sleeve but what that plan might be, I have no idea. I guess, we must wait till next week

Though it may sound twisted, I was happy to see a broken and distraught Lelouch. All these episodes (except the last one from season 1) has shown him in control with a complete handle over the situation. Guess what? That handle is gone now and either Lelouch is going to have to throw it all away or move foward. I mean he almost resorted to drugs. You know that when an anime character starts doing drugs, they are going through a serious breakdown. Luckily, it looks like he's chosen some sort of middle ground.

Some things though

1. Seeing Lelouch Geassing everybody he looked at reminded me of Black Lagoon when Revy just started killing everybody on that ship.

2. Why did Rolo show that broadcast again? Was it to mindrape him or what?

3. It's official, this is a harem anime now.

4. (i am not one but...) YAOI FANGIRLS REJOICE. I expect a lot of doujinshi in a few days. Heck I expected some the moment Rolo showed up

5. Glad they didn't kiss but, come on Kallen you know you wanted it (What was up with Kallen's outfit during that scene, it was basically screaming out "Oh Lelouch, kiss me deep and passionately")

6. Was...Was C.C. just talking to Lelouch's mom?

Man I was waiting nearly all day to watch this. It was soooooo worth it. Fear not everyone, The rebellion has truly begun anew

And actually it looks like the rebellion will begin on adult swim next month. So we'll have a rebellion in the home country and a continuing one overseas

Johnny Young Bosch+Lelouche=MAJOR WIN

I just remerabered Johnny Young Bosch is Ichigo so not only will his awesome voice acting be on twice in one day, but they will be on in the same night and as two very awesome main characters (Bosch does a lot of main characters Renton, Ichigo, Kamina from Akira, Vash from Trigun, Eriol from Cardcaptor Sakura, Kiba from Wolf's Rain, Itsuki from Melanohly of Haruhi Suzumiya, etc.). Makes garfield15 very happy

EDIT: 100'th POST YAY ME

...That was unexpectedly sad. I don't care how super the Guren is, or how cool the battles were...they just killed a ---load of people. That's something that really bothers me about this show. They don't do death well. It's basically...emotionless from the characters [unless we're talking about Lelouch to Nunally]. It's pointless killing for the sake of war. It feels like all these characters are being built for the point of dieing at some point during the show. By the end of this series half the cast will be dead. That's great that we can all watch in awe as Kallen rips apart Lucanio, but LOTS OF PEOPLE JUST DIED. I don't care how flashy your mech is, there is no ignoring that.

On another note:
-I don't believe Nunally is dead.
- This was mentioned before but, Suzaku was the one who agreed to put the borab on the mech and fly off with it. He might not have voluntarily used it, but he went out there with the possibility. Also his 'this is atoning for my sins' proves that he still hasn't gotten over his fatherdeathIshould die complex. If Nina wasn't such a crazy beeotch this situation would have never arose. Lets burn the woman.
Oddly enough however, I'm not angry at Suzaku.
- Yeah... Rolo you're a little too loyal...and have a major obsession issue

I don't want Lelouch to go off as some lone ranger 'I'm isolated and angry'. If we're talking about betrayal, I see it from Suzaku's side. I want him to fight the knight of one.

Going into the episode, I was expecting a full fanservice debacle. Color me pleasantly surprised because I don't think it was nearly as bad as people are painting it to be--and I'm very much anti-fanservice. The Kallen scene was practically blink-and-miss-it. To really get anything from it, you'd have to pause the scene and stare (though I imagine some people [read: fanboys] did *facepalm*). The C.C. fanservice, on the other hand, did bother me a bit. But on the whole, it really wasn't that bad.

I'm in agreement that the chat between Zero and the Eunuchs was distracting during the episode. I was trying to follow the conversation and missed half the battle. I'm just glad it came up as being important, so there was a reason the fighting was interrupted.

What happened between C.C. and Anya there? And we saw the mini-Lelouch image again, so I imagine that's going to come up down the line. Seems Anya's got some secrets that could end up being important.

When Lelouch activated his Knightmare, I totally thought of Death Note with the massive flourishing. The intense defensive capabilities were pretty impressive, though. And Xingke protecting Tianzi was great.

I got a good laugh at the women ganging up at Diethard for suggesting marrying off Tianzi. And Lelouch has to back off, not knowing what to do. Good times.

Sayoko... just kissed Shirley. Pardon me while I fall over laughing.

Seriously, though, I couldn't stop laughing when Anya and Zino showed up at Ashford. Totally priceless. Man, I adore Zino. He's a riot.

I'm not thrilled that we're having another Ashford episode so soon, but I can only hope that having another light-hearted episode so soon means we're going to be getting some heavy stuff for the remainder. There is a lot of stuff left to cover, so it doesn't seem like they have much time to devote to episodes like these. Guess we'll see.

I like the theory...if seeing through a contract allows someone like C.C. to die, maybe she just wants to live long enough to make sure V.V. isn't around to mess up their legacy anymore--hence her alliance with Lelouch to eventually take out Charles.
