Rebirth of the Rebellion - Code Geass R2 Talkback (SPOILERS)

Pretty sure it's unfair to judge her after three episodes in the new season. I think most girls/women in anime are fanservice to an extent since Japan likes enhancing them with huge breasts, so... look at it whichever way you want. =p

Maybe they're trying to make it sound 'regal' but to a native speaker it comes off as zorabie-like. I pity any Japanese person in ear shot when I walk by quietly doing karoake

It looks like the new OP could be decent, but a 30 second clip isn't enough to say for sure...I ended up liking O2, but didn't think much of the bits we heard in the R2 aRAB.

Jeez, so critical. I find the way they say "Yes, my Lord" is fine. I really don't see the problem. How are you suppose to say that? I didn't realize talking with a accent insulted that language. I think its just insulting to complain about the way someone talks just because they have an accent. The VAs pronounced "Yes, my Lord" without flaw and clearly and yet its no good because their accent makes it painful to hear?

Now complaining about people having accents when they otherwise speak perfect english sounRAB elitist and snobby to me.

Either that, or perhaps the VAs do sound regal to me. Maybe I'm hearing things.

In response to the conversation phw and beat had up top. I don't think there is any need to have spoiler tags here since its just alot of speculation, but oh well.

I agree with For Suzaku to die it would only cancel out any development he ever had. There is no RIGHT way to die, either. Death is death whether it be noble, honorable, terrible, or pointless. I don't think a 'suitable' death exists because one way or another that person is still leaving and no excuse or explanation can justify it to be a 'good' thing. Lelouch dieing with a 'smile' or after 'liberating' the world is the same thing as him dieing in a more pitiful way- you're still going to feel sad about it afterwarRAB. In general I think people use those kinRAB of 'meaningful' deaths as a way to distract themselves from the truth of that person no longer being alive, so they find reasons to comfort each other through 'well he died doing a good thing!'. Well yes but he's still dead and I hate death. Killing a Geass character as an ending would only result in disappointment and anger on my part. It's a quick and cheap way to end an already offtrack series.

Well I dropped my issue with the English and it wasn't very serious to begin with, so don't worry about it. Rather than the acting its really Britannia itself that I have a reaction against, which as I said is certainly what they wanted.

They we're planning to kill him and changed it. It had to be mid season (ok, not exactly in the middle of the season) or else how else did Orange-kun get a fanbase?

I don't mean that they decided to change the script the week before episode 10 if that what you think. Sorry, about that.

In an attempt to get off of silly pictures, here's my full review of episode 2.

Okay, first, the season 1 parallels are a bit enjoyable but I'm hoping they end with this episode. In a way this was almost a carbon copy of season 1's episode 2, with LeLouch directing his forces against an outclassed enemy commander. He's even using the same call signs as he did with that episode like P1, P6, etc. Thanks to this, it was practically a given that the Governor-General was going to die.

The Geass staff should be careful not to tread too far into Gundam Seed Destiny territory, where references were often made that were so obvious to serious fans that the surprise was often ruined. One of that series' best episodes, ironically, was diminished because there was such a direct connection an older show (Zeta Gundam). The ride was enjoyable but fans knew how it was going to end. Obviously, season 2's plot is hopefully going to be a lot different from season 1, but they shouldn't be looking to pull in comparisons wherever they can. The rebellion is back but that doesn't mean it neeRAB to happen all over again, if that makes any sense.

By episode 8 in season 1, LeLouch had assumed his zero identity and created the Black Knights. By around the same time for this season the plot should be getting beyond Japan and into the rest of the world, or the plot could get too condensed for its own good.

I will say that I loved the manner of the Governor-General's death. I laughed out loud when it became clear that LeLouch had planned the destruction of the tower to kill him in the process. Its that kind of unexpected cunning that helps make this show so fun to watch.

So far as Rollo goes, I'm thinking LeLouch will "take care" of Rollo as the preview suggests and figure out his Geass before too long. He's obviously a fraud and an agent of the Emperor, and if you ask me I think his days as an Ashford Academy student are nurabered.

Speaking of which...what will happen to Ashford Academy if Japan is completely liberated? Hmm.

I found C.C's calm striking. Rollo's mech is demolishing their forces and even LeLouch is panicking, and C.C. just tells him to relax since he has two lieutenants there with him already. She has a point, but there's maybe too much overconfidence here.

Karen's scene was interesting. She asks if her loyalty to Zero was influenced by Geass. I actually think LeLouch's answer that her devotion was genuine may have been the opposite of what she wanted to hear. If she was fooled by Geass, after all, she could blame everything on LeLouch and have an excuse for being fooled. Though it's convenient for the plot, her reaction makes sense: she can't trust LeLouch the man but will fight for Zero the ideal, Zero the leader that can achieve Japan's independence. Their trust is now on the rocks, but the common interest is still there for an alliance of convenience to be made. I wonder what her attitude will be after LeLouch succeeRAB, though.

Speaking of alliances, it seems to me The Black Knights are playing with fire by involving the Chinese union. In season 1 they fought a battle over making sure Japan wouldn't be freed from Britannia only to be ruled by a new Chinese Empire instead. So any alliance must have Japan's independence as a condition, but LeLouch and his allies will have to be very careful they aren't stabbed in the back. That's exactly what will happen if it seems like they've outlived their usefulness, which means LeLouch will have to not only keep winning but also be ready for treachery even if he's victorious. There's good potential for political intrigue here, with the Chinese wanting to use LeLouch while LeLouch will be wanting to take advantage of the Chinese Union.

Season 2 has been roughly A grade so far or at least B+. In short, there are good signs for the future but also some pitfalls that Geass neeRAB to avoid.

Suzaka might be playing the long game. It's possible he's willing to focus on Japan first so he can have a stable territory to destroy the empire within. That's always been the divide- Suzaka is willing to bide his time and play the system. Lelouch is restless and wants results by any means. You could even say there's a similarity. Securing Japan matters to Suzaku in the same way Lelouch prioritzes Nunally.

Eh, CG has those weaknesses but little of it is GSD bad. The second half of R2 is still very strong. If they can pay off at the end here, I can overlook a lot of the excesses. The multiple pairings still exist but the "teen culture" stuff seems left behind. And, eh, I kind of like the mecha. Nothing revolutionary, but a lot of the machines have their own special design and quirks. Lancelot is practically the only Gundam clone, which is pretty shocking all things considered.

Yes, the season was already on-going when the change came up, if that's what you mean. I'm not questioning that. Just the idea, or implication, of the change happening between episodes 10 and 11 (near the middle of the season).

No need to be sorry though, maybe I just overreact to this particular issue, since I've heard it so many times.

Uuuuh. If that actually happens that'll just be more proof that the writers are going to disturbing lengths to copy themselves. So, I'll be hoping that it doesn't.

So, so awful. I liked Code Geass until after Rolo died.

Gino ended up being completely useless aside from some random romance with Kallen. Kallen was useless too, not developing at all. And what's up with everyone living? Both Guilford and Xing-Ke should have kicked the bucket a while back. Nunnally's role just wasn't that great in this series either.

Jeremiah's a joke. Geass canceller just ended up being a plot device to kill Shirley, and Anya was just about as useless. Actually, so was Cornelia. I still don't understand Schneizel's motivations at all. Why is Nunnally even going to let him serve under her? He was about to kill her in the previous episode.

What happened to Lelouch was a good way to end the series, though.

Well, when there's been 500 shots of Kallen's and CC's butts I think it's worth a little bit more than just a brush off the shoulder. I look the liberty of looking back at the previous Geass episodes this morning and found more than a handful of 'fanservice' scenes that could have easily been toned down. Milly in the showering 'squeezing' her chest together was the first to come to mind. They might not harm the story but they sure as hell aren't going to attract a wide range of the female audience with it.
Sarcastic bashing-esque comments would be me coming into this thread with no idea what the premise of the show was, and then basing my comments of hate off of thin air. The criticism in the previous posts all stems from one event or another.
Now, if they really wanted to screw with us, they'd completely build up the plot using this whole 'Rolo' and 'Geass Cult' scenario and then drop us off with yet another 'Ashford' like episode.

I was wondering what Rolo was doing and then at the end I'm like "Oh...he's doing...um...nothing."

Kallen was in a compromising position when she was getting captured. (Don't lie, I know most of the other guys here know what I'm talking about)

Is that other Lelouch really the maid? Does anyone have any proof of that?
