Rear Brakes

There is a wear indicator cast into the rear drum- depress the pedal all the way see if the split on the actuator arm is still in the range cast into the drum. It is not uncommon to get 35,000- 50,000 miles out of the rear brake.

It's probably not recommended but if I know that I have to stop way ahead of time, I just use the front brake. I figure the front discs are way cheaper to replace than the rear drum.

Definately not a good idea, especially as the price difference between a set of front brake pads and rear brake shoes on your bike is only about $5.

What about if when I press my rear brake pedal the pedal arm touches the floorboard bracket. Does that mean the rear brake is worn down or need to be adj. The fluid is correct level?

There is no fluid- your C50 has a cable operated drum brake. The pedal hight will need to be adjusted, not hard to do at all. Thre is an adjustment nut on the rear of the cable, also an adjustment screw inder the pedal. Play with them until the brake feels right and you have the right hieght for the pedal, and a little bit of free play in the pedal. Cables stretch over time, so adjust this every time you do tires.
