My medical doctor sent me to see a surgen about nerve damage in my lower back and leg pain but the doctor said i didn't need surgery. He said he didn't understand why i am having the problems i'm having. I have degenerative disc dease, cocyx pain, cervical and lurabar pain, disc displacement, and more. Why why are the doctor's telling me i don't need surgery when i have nerve damange? I have been suffering for almost 17yr's with this pain with no good results and i'm tryed of the pain i'm in my legs hurt when i walk. Is it because i fell in a hospital? If so i thuoght hospitals where to help people not let them suffer as long has i have.

It may be because after this long they can't take care of the nerve pain. If you have had nerve impingement and it went untreated, you may have reached the point where it will never recover. Nevers can only susta9in being damaged for so long. My doc told me that after nerve damage, any nurabeness and pain you have will remain after a year.

have you had a MRI done recently? If you don't like the surgeon you have seen, go to another one and get another opinion. Have you an an emg done to see what nerve damage has been done? What kind of surgeon did you see? Have you seen an ortho. surgeon. Was the surgeon you saw specifically a back surgeon? If not, see one that is board certified.
BTW there are meRAB for nerve pain that you can be prescribed.

Bake and Pray gave some excellent advice but whatever you do not give up! A good nerve pain medication I found is Nortriptyline which has actually got me back on my feet after being on crutches for almost three months. I had a nerve stump removed under my foot and the incision did't heal properly and I ended up with a 3 inch scar on the ball of my foot BUT as if that wasn't bad enough I found out that what was left of the nerve that they cut was erabedded into the scar so not only could I not put any ressure on my foot but just by doing nothing I'd get hit by nerve pain all day long that would register from a 2 to a an easy 15 that would bring tears to my eyes! After one day of Nortripytine I was using a cain and 4 days later I can go around the house on my own two feet for short time perioRAB because I'm limping with discomfort but no nerve pain at all. I wii have to go throu painfull PT to break up scar tissue and release the nerve. I wish you pain free days and that you find the answers your looking for.

God bless you

Ask your primary care for a referral to another Orthopedic Spine Surgeon and/or Neurosurgeon. Then after that appointment, if you are still not clear on what is going on, call the surgeon that you saw and ask for your medical recorRAB. Then you'll get their notes as to what they saw in tests, what they heard from you, what they recommend, etc.
