Real Quick Online Game Hacking Question.?

I was looking through some information and i ran across a thread of game hackers. Anyway they were talking about god mode in online games and i remember years back I was trying to do the same thing when I was all into games and I keep wandering is there no way to find god mode in online games without packet sniffing and such? There is no way to do it client sided at all? Or has no one just not found a way to do it client sided?
