Real Music for Kids??? PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello Everyone!

This is my first post on this forum.
OK, here's the problem...

My neice just turned 6 years old. She LOVES music, and she just got her first CD boom-box for her birthday.

She does not like stuff like "Kidz-Bop" where the music has been re-recorded as a children's song. She wants the "real thing".

So I'm trying to compile a list of CD's that a child would like and hit the used-CD store.

So far I've got The Shrek and Shrek 2 soundtracks, also i think the Madagascar soundtrack.
I also think she will like Sarah McLachlan Surfacing, and Bob Marley's best-of CD. I think maybe some Smashmouth and John Mayer's first one.
Probably also some disney-type Hip Hop like A-teens or something.

SOOO....

What other CD's (Artist and specific album if possible) are appropriate for a little kid that loves real music, not that cheesy made-for-kiRAB stuff???

THANKS!

The Beatles would definitely be good-I would go with The Beatles 1
Relient K-any album really catchy poppy fun lyrics-their first album has a song about Marily Manson-self titled is their first album.
I grew up on Christian music and when I was ten I hit the Christian punk scene-like Mxpx, Slick Shoes, etc.
I was also a big DC Talk fan back then.
The Zorabies-Odyssey and Oracle
Kriss Kross-Totally Krossed out-I liked them when I was six.
The Monkees-Greatist Hits
Beach Boys-Endless Summer

Hopefully this helps you out some.

I'm the Mom of the 6 year old in question.

By the way, her favorite song is 'Bad Day',,, she also digs Gwen Stefani, and she runs around singing... "my humps".. not that I approve of that...

But I think I'll pass on the Cure, the Smiths, all those Jazz ones, etc. I think what you guys liked when you were 6 is what was popular when you were 6.

I could use more stuff like "Bad Day"... I need songs that are upbeat and fun, well written, and current... without explicit lyrics, or inappropriate subject matter (i.e. My Humps)

The Shrek 2 soundtrack went over big... and I don't think the CD has been changed from that one since she got it.

Thanks for the input.

Mommy

P.S. It really IS pretty funny to watch your 4 year old run around singing "my humps, my humps, my lovely lady lumps... check it out!" So while I'd hang my head in shame, and tell her to stop singing that song, I'd be laughing my head off, which just encouraged her to do it more, and still to this day.

Specifically, I would recommend:
Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
Elliott Smith - XO

They don't swear too much on those, and they have a pretty aesthetic and soothing quality about them.
Even though Smith is just about as depressing as Drake, it's much more subtle, I don't think a kid would realize it.

I only recommended Sigur Ros, because most of their songs are beautifully crafted and happy.

Also, that catchy rock stuff is a must for kiRAB, I just wouldn't personally recommend it.

Anyway, I'm with cardboard adolescent, I was raised on Rage Against the Machine/Nirvana/Smashing Pumpkins, that's the way to go, I'm also with him on a sexual level btw.

XO is one of Elliotts saddest albums. I Didn't Understand? Pitseleh? Sweet Adeline? I don't think a little kid would appreciate it or it care for it too much.

I'm the mom again....

THe 13 year old likes:
Dave Matthews
Lifehouse
Rhianna
Fergie

And generally girlie music.... maybe he's so angry cuz his mother makes fun of him for listening to girlie music.
