Nobody has mentioned the Quannum crew (Blackalicious, Lyrics Born, Lateef the Truth Speaker). Jeru the Damaja, Prefuse 73 (sort of anyways), El P, Edan, Mr. Lif/The Perceptionists, Black Star, Dizzee Rascal, Jaylib, Coldcut, J Dilla, Cunninlynguists, Count Bass D, Cage, the list goes on.

And I'm seeing Mr. Lif tonight, so pumped.

i guess i never understood why only def jux rappers are considered true hiphop these days. fuck it, give me old jay z, reflection eternal, old mobb deep, black star, tribe called quest any day over that shit.

Other than Jay Z, I don't really have a problem with any of those rappers. Some people just want more music or more out of their music than they can offer.

Def Jux all have solid rhyming skills, in my opinion, and Mr. Lif has a lot of political commentary that I appreciate (although don't always agree with). Like MF Doom, they sound a bit different, and have a different flow than the old school style.

Besides, who wants to listen to just old music?

People still listen to radios? I thought those things were locked up in museums and shit. Im going to go out on a limb and say your name is Billy and you live in Montana.

doom, dangerdoom, shit's not even that great.

throw in some sage, technique, eyedea, bro ali, POS, there ya go.
hell even weezy's new album is pretty dope

Nice to see people here listen to some decent hip hop! But I still listen to the radio. Except I listen to classic rock--everything else on the radio is garbage to me. The mainstream hip hop is garbage to me, because it's so god damn repetitive. They've switched from creativity, originality, and droppin knowledge to money, money, and money! They write music for the masses, not for the hip hop entusiasts. Nowadays mainstream hip hop is a simple riff and a catchy hook put on repeat for ~3min. But that's just my opinion.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't have respect for the creators of mainstream music (Jay-z, Eminem, Lil Jon, etc...). If you check out their other stuff, some of it is really good (aka, not mainstream). They make mainstream songs because they (like most people) want money! So hate the music, but don't hate the artists. They're just playing the system.

Pharoahe Monch, Big L, Del, Danger Mouse, Kweli, J5, Redman, Roots, Journalist, Dilated Peoples, M.O.P., Pharcyde, the list goes on and on
