"L4-5 Severe focal central and left paracentral posterior disc protrusion with protruded disc material estending 6 mm posterior from the level of the posterior marigin of the bvertical bodies. ...... most likley results in mass effect on L5 nerve root."

My first doc (two years ago) wanted to do artificial disc replacement; not ruled out, but very cautious. Second doc said no, that was bad idea, and that disectomy would only help right side leg pain, not left. Not sure why, did not get good answer after several inquiries. Now going to third doc.

Is disectomy realistic scenario?

Sorry no one has answered you yet and my experience is cervical but I go for a lurabar MRI Tuesday.

My own experience is that every single spine doc I've seen has a different opinion. the one who didn't want to put in the artificial disk may be certified in putting them in and so is covering for himself by saying to not do it. I don't see why removing the disk and putting in an ADR would not work...it's not like he'd be removing only one side of the bad disk.

So see guy #3 and whoever you go by, make sure they do nothing but spine surgery 24/7/365.

Let me know what #3 has to say.
