Hi, I am a 19 yr old female college student. I had headaches for a few weeks, they started out as tension headaches that went away when I forced myself to get involved in activities. But recently I have been experienceing these random sharp pains throughout my head during the day. I do have issues with anxiety. The pains are not affected by advil. They come and go througout the day. Sometimes I get one and it stops. They occur in different areas all over my head, sometimes my jaw and occasionally behind my eyes. The pain isnt completely unbearable but I do notice it and it scares the hell out of me. I had migraines in the past so I dont think this is one. I've been having some trouble with my sinuses as well. I live in upstate NY and the weather has recently gotten very cold. It is very hard to describe these pains. Its like a zap of pain, sometimes I get it for a few minutes and its done. Ugh Im so scared. I meet with my neurologist on Friday.

if they become more intense, look into "cluster headaches", also ask your parents if they've ever experienced this. Could also be tension headaches caused by anxiety, or if your taking medication sparse use of medication.

ylime91: Do you notice them more right before, during and after your menstrual cycle? If so, it could be hormone related. Look at what you're eating and see if you can elminate fooRAB in your diet with MSG. MSG aggravates the brain. Also soy products can cause issues with your hormones. Are you bothered by fluorescent lights? Those can trigger headaches and seizures. See if you can get an EEG and even an MRI to see what's going on in your brain. Alot of times doctors prescribe Topomax for migraines. It's a seizure med. Keep track of when these are happening on a calendar and see if you see a pattern. Take note of what you're eating and see if you're not getting enough sleep, too.

You can also try taking some magnesium, selenium, Vit B6 and B12 and see if those will help out.
