Has anyone tried this?

Now that my 5100-with-120GB-drive is a doorstop (see http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=99454&page=2) its back to the old trusty 2700 while I figure out what to do.

I know a second-hand purchased receiver cannot be activated by the web tool. But surely folks might want to reactivate an old receiver still on their acct?

Being down south means avoiding calling Bell wherever possible!

Thanks

A 5100 with a 120GB HDD is a 5900 :)

I do not believe you can reactivate a receiver online. I am pretty sure you can only add one to your account and/or resync programming for ones that are already active. A phone call is the only option I am aware of.

Sorry - I can't agree with that... even though I know you had a smilie there.

That's exactly what I thought, before I went down this sorry path 4 months ago!

I agree that a 5100 with a 120GB drive is functionally the same as a 5900; but the 5100 has the dreaded Conexant chip issue - and it seems 5900's don't.

Anyone who hasn't been here should avoid picking up a used/second-hand 5100 even if it has a hard-drive upgrade! Thinking the hard-drive was the weakest point of any DVR, I chose the "tried and true" 5100 which the previous owner had recently put a new HDD in, over a 5900 that was a couple of years older than the new drive in the 5100. DON'T DO IT!! :-) Take the 5900 if there's one going!!
