I have a power port which replaced my mediport in May because that one was damaged. I was glad to be getting the new port because I had been having horrible reactions to the mediport being flushed. I would get a fever, chills, uncontrollable shakes, muscle spasms, headache, nausea, and my hands/feet and lips turn blue. This starts about an hour to 2 hours after the port is flushed. I have tried taking tizanidine 12mg (muscle relaxant), Ativan 1mg (sedative) and methadone 10mg for pain to try and help control the symptoms. In no way does it stop the reaction but it does make it more bearable instead of my discomfort level being a 10 it is about a 5/6. Taking the meds also seems to lessen the length of time the reaction happens, without the meds it can go on for 12 hours or more, with the meds it is essentially over in 3/4 even though I feel like I have been run over by a tractor trailer the rest of the night and next day.
Essentially what I am trying to find out is if this happens to anyone else? And, is there anything that can be done? Or if anyone knows of a physician who might know more about it.
