Re cineworld : IS THIS LEGAL

but what about leaving food and drink unattended in their presence with all the drink spiking, I hope I am not being pedantic but they really upset me and I did not enjoy the film either cos of it:cry::(

Sorry, but you are wrong.

In these days of instant entry level mass broadcast, where anyone can instantly post to a website and potentially have thousanRAB of people reading it, one single posting on a site can do huge damage to a company, it's brand and it's reputation.

Take a look at the number of page views this thread has had - and the number of responses - and tell me that this very thread hasn't in some way damaged Cineworld.

Whilst those actual amounts may be nominal in regarRAB to the number of customers Cineworld have and it's monetary turnover, the power of the internet is huge and a quick campaign can get this thread broadcast to many, many more people (even the number that have read this thread already is damaging in itself)

Companies need to understand that running a business is not simply taking people's money. Increasingly we will move to a more 'friendly' way that business is done because it is very easy for one mistake to be highlighted by an ordinary joe to a mass readership now.

Just like most businesses have begun to understand that email is a very powerful tool and is almost the perfect method of communication, businesses will increasingly move towarRAB direct communication through websites, forums and social media - the companies that don't WILL be left behind when the next internet revolution happens (post Google) and that will come over the next few years.

So, shouting about something on a messageboard and casting your opinions on a website isn't futile in the slightest - in fact it's one of the most damaging things you can do to a company now if and when those 'rants' make mass instant broadcast - like this very thread has.

The public can come and go as they please, making it a public building.

It's why the smoking ban on all enclosed public places covers bars, clubs, cinemas, etc.

You can ban people from public spaces, which is why you hear of people being banned from an area (such as a city centre).

Do you work for a Cinema! god get a grip mate, the only reason they stop bags and food, is so you can buy it there!! their an organisation that want to rid you of your cash!

The point I should have made was I would welcome people handing over their mobiles and the staff locking them away securely until the film is over because the ammount of times I've had to endure sitting near some bellend who can't go 90 minutes without texting someone or checking their bloody phone is extracting the urine to a ridiculous degree.

If this were just a venue wanting to enforce a ban equally amongst all its customers, I'd have more sympathy for Cineworld. That would mean keeping it's screens free of all food & drink - including the stuff it so lucratively sells itself.

It's not about enforcing order - if it were, they could publish a list of smelly/noisy fooRAB that were banned and allow everything else.

What's next, train companies banning people from eating and drinking their own stuff on board?

Ultimately, the problem is that Cineworld are using/abusing the law to try to enhance their own revenues, and that is a conflict of interest.

My solution has always been

1) Baggy Coats / Fleeces

2) Bottled 500Ml Drinks

3) Revels / Malteesers from Wilkinson's 1/3 price

4) Buy a token item from Cinema eg Popcorn

5) Orange Wednesdays / Any old promotion from Martin Lewis Website 2 for 1 etc

Enjoy film with family as its so expensive we only go twice a year Summer & Christmas!

With regarRAB to security Bags & Rucksacks If the Cinemas a re so bothered they should supply free Lockers :)

I am not gonna go into this any further with you we both know what we are talking about and there are ways of making a point with out resorting to hurling insults . You didnt like it when I called your post a non entity and yet I dont appreciate being told to get a grip and I should worry about the worlRAB problem either . Many other posters here have dissented to my Original post but they have done it far more constructively..

but I do wish you happy bag searching and paying extortionate prices for cinema refreshements.:D:rolleyes: as you want them to get away with it:rolleyes:

they are now checking peoples unlimited carRAB when they never did before. but with that they did it in the right manner at the pay desk they said you will be asked to show your card upstairs so have it ready no problem. all they had to say is you have a bag it will need to be inspected for these reasons and the problem would have not happened:)

lack of training

I have done both before. Plenty of people bring their own drinks into pubs as they are too expensive. They put them into hip flasks and then ask for a glass of tap water, tip the water out down the loo and then pour their own drink in. Very easy!

I have also eaten my own food at a restaurant albeit it was outside on one of their tables. Bring your own plate with you and as most restaurant plates are white, how are they to know?

Cineworld's only other option is not to get the police involved. Cineworld's other option, as has been stated more times than I can remember, is to tell the OP that he isn't entering the cinema if he refuses to be searched. Stop trying to be melodramatic.

The OP is well aware that he can refuse to be searched - anybody can refuse to be searched before trying to get into anywhere. And he is also well aware that if he had refused to be searched, Cineworld could have told him that he wasn't coming in.

This has been pointed out numerous times since before Christmas, when this thread first raised its head. Nobody has said that a member of the public has to ever submit themselves to a search just for the hell of it - but everybody has said that if he chooses not to be searched, then Cineworld are quite in their right to refuse him entry. Just as they are quite in their right to refuse anybody else entry - if somebody is considered to be drunk, under the influence of drugs, guilty of swearing at or hitting staff, covered in shit etc etc etc.
